Histogram visualization in Analysis Workspace histogram-visualization-in-analysis-workspace

Histograms allow you to visualize the distribution of a metric across your visitors, visits, and hits, to find high- and low-value segments.

Hi this is Jen Lasser with Adobe Analytics Product Management. In this video, I’m going to demonstrate how to use the Histogram Visualization in Analysis Workspace as well as highlight a new feature that we’ve added to it.
The Histogram Visualization can be added from the left Visualization rail and dragged into any Freeform panel. Histograms are a great way to visualize the distribution of key metrics that you’ve collected across your visitors visits and now even your hits.
For example, if I wanted to find out who my high value visitors are in terms of revenue, I could drag over the revenue metric.
I’m going to go ahead and click Build. And what the Histogram will do for you is automatically create 12 different buckets each with a value of 2 within them. For example, we’re looking here on the left at visitors who spent between 1 and 3 dollars over this month. And all the way to the right, we’re looking at visitors who spent more than 25 dollars. So while this is a little bit helpful, we can also adjust the Histogram Settings to create a more meaningful chart. For example, we can change the number of buckets that we see on the chart to 10 instead of 12. As we make changes you’ll see the Histogram on the left adjust. And we can also change the bucket size since we’re talking about revenue here, let’s make it quite a bit larger, something like 100. You can type in any number that you need. Now we can see a much more meaningful distribution of our revenue. And all the way over here to the right, we can see the visitors that have spent more than a 1000 dollars this month. These are our high value orderers.
We can count more than just visitors though. You can change your counting method to look at high value visits. So where have people spent more than a thousand dollars in a particular visit. And now the new feature we’ve added is even down to the hit. So for this particular use case, you could see the specific orders where people spent more than a 1000 dollars. This new counting method of hit could be very useful for could be very useful for currency events like this example here with revenue, and also numeric events where you’re passing in some number greater than 1 or 0 on a particular hit.
One other thing I wanted to highlight is the fact that the Histogram creates an underlying hidden table on your behalf to power the visualization.
What you can do from that is actually create and utilize segments that the Histogram has made for you in other analyses. So for example, if you wanted to take this bar all the way to the right of people or hits where the revenue is greater than a 1000 dollars, you could simply unhide the Data source power in the visualization and show the table. Each row in the table is a segment that we’ve created on your behalf. For example, 401 represents people that are hits that have revenue between 401 and less than 501. Each one of these is an internal segment meaning that it won’t show up in your list here on the left. If you do want it to show up, for example, if you wanted this high value segment here of a 1001 revenue dollars. You could go ahead and click the eye and then simply make this segment Public. What that’s going to do is allow it to show up in your list so that you can use it in other analyses across Analysis Workspace and even the other solutions. You could even take it a step further and select the Actions or right click and Share this segment with your colleagues so that they have access to this high value segment as well.
So, I hope you found this demonstration of our Histogram Visualization helpful and we hope you get a lot of use out of the new hit counting method that we’ve added. -
