Hey everybody it’s Doug, in this video, I want to just take a minute to go over the Treemap Visualization, show how to put it into your project, and maybe talk about where it’s best used. So, like several visualizations, the Treemap Visualization does depend on data in a freeform table. So, I’ve got a Product Revenue table here. I’ve got my products and the revenue for this month. And I’m just going to drop a Treemap in there, and first thing we can make sure that it is associated with the table that we want. It is indeed. And so we can proceed from there and I’ll click out of that and we can just right away see that it is this visualization that has a box basically, for each of the products in this case, based on the amount of revenue. So, you know, the more revenue, the bigger the box, etc. And for the ones where it can actually fit the actual item, then you going to see it right there. And if you want to mouse over the other items that are a little bit smaller, you can also see which item that is and the amount. So that’s always available to you if you mouse over those. Now this is a pretty quick and easy way to see the products with the most revenue or this graphical representation with bigger boxes, etc. But in any case, you might even find it more useful to have a bar graph, right? Or a horizontal bar graph maybe, or, you know, either way vertical or horizontal. However, let me show you something that I think really lends itself well to the Treemap. And that is, when we’re actually going to break down these items by another dimension. And in this case, I don’t mean in the rows here, but I’m going to put it into the columns over here, basically as a filter, because that’s what actually will go into the Treemap graph. So, I’m going to take marketing channels and I’m going to drag these over and I’m going to make them basically filter for revenue.
Now I have these five marketing channels, and I have sections up here for each one. And so now, instead of going through and having to digest all these numbers and my eyes are glazing over even right now, as I look at it, I can just kind of look up here and say, where are the big ones? And then immediately see where revenue is being spent when they come in via certain marketing channels. Now, in fact, instead of the regular numbers, and you can see these raw numbers here, I’m going to go up to this gear and I’m going to select Percentages. And now I have these percentages, let me click out of that. And I can see again, the big ones here. Now you saw in that gear that I had a certain number, say only show me 14 items. So, this is showing me the top 14, and you can see that I don’t have 14 boxes here. And that’s because I’m actually sorting down here by the referring domains marketing channel. So, it’s basically taking the top 14. If I go one through 14 here, and it’s giving me these 14. And when you actually go over to Social Networks, you see that I really only have like four items that have any numbers there. And that’s why there’s only four items up here. In fact, I can increase that number. If I go back up here, I can increase that to 25, and then you can see a lot of data here. Now, once again, I can see where the big boxes are here and see if there are any outliers within all of that data. So naturally my eye kind of goes over here to this bigger box right here. And even in the direct marketing channel, I kind of see that this one is a lot bigger than maybe the rest of them. So, I quickly go over there and that’s 5.2% of the revenue. And I can see for internal, it’s kind of got a few of them here that are basically the same as well as Natural Search. But in any case to me, when you have a lot of data like this, especially having put some items here as filters in the columns and this breakdown report, you can see for the given products when people came in, in this case, through these specific marketing channels, where did the revenue come from? And this is a good way to look at a lot of data at once and kind of see where there might be some places where you can really pay attention. Anyway, I hope that was helpful and good luck. -
