In this demo, we’re going to see an example of how we can use generative fill powered by Adobe Firefly in Photoshop to make it easier to create a travel ad. We recently received a marketing brief that our client wants to have some travel themed billboards that can align to some different audiences. So we’re going to use Photoshop to rapidly create some concept ideas we can share with our client. As a starting point, we have this picture in Maui. However, this image is obviously not wide enough for the proportions of our billboard. So using the marquee tool, I can simply just select the area that I don’t have content here.
And I can then use generative fill. This is going to understand the context of the rest of the document and fill it in with our new image area here, which looks beautiful. Now, we also can see that it’s created a couple of different variations for us to be able to use. I’m going to choose the second one because it gives me some of that extra space on the left hand side there. Next, as much as the rock looks beautiful in this image, when people think of vacation, they usually think of beaches. So we can just select that area with the rocks and we can then use generative fill to fill that in with a beach. So we just click on generative fill and type in our prompt beach. And when that generates, that’s going to then replace those rocks with now a beach. And if we look at our variations again.
We can see a couple of cool variations, but I’m not quite happy with some of the results, so I can then just go up here and click on generate to create a new set of variations for me to be able to look at. This allows me to think as a creative director as I am building this, bringing the different variations and knowing what’s right for my image. Next, market research has said that hiking has really been growing in popularity. To add that to this image, we’re just going to select our horizon here. We’re going to add some more mountains. So again, we’re just going to go in, click on generative fill, and we’re going to type in our prompt mountains. And then what we’ll see is now we have mountains, magic. Again, let’s look at some of the different variations that come up here along with that one. Again, I’m going to use the second one there because it matches the image in my mind. The next thing is we need to create a few different variations. The first one we want to promote airline travel. So we’re going to just go in here and we’re going to select this area here and we want to add an airplane, so just type in airplane.
And now we will have an airplane. Hey, that one looks pretty good. Let’s look at a couple of the other variations here. You know what? That plane looks exactly like what I was thinking. So now let’s add some of the elements for my campaign, which I have conveniently inside of my creative cloud libraries. And from there I can just drag and drop my elements in here. We’re going to drop our logo.
Now this campaign is really coming together. This billboard is really making me feel like I want to go on vacation. But let’s create another variation because we also need to create one for people who like to go on cruise vacations. We’re going to shut off some of our different layers and we’re just going to select an area where we want to add our cruise ship.
We’re going to add that to our prompt.
And there we go, we have a couple of our other variations of cruise ships. That one looks pretty good. That one looks pretty good. All right. We can save this and have a look at what this is going to look like. Have this linked to a billboard file we have here. And that’s looking pretty good. If I want to make a couple of quick changes, I can go back into the image here. We’re going to change the size of our text here. Resize that. We can have a look at it one more time. Looking pretty good. Now let’s have a look at what that looks like with the airplane.
Turn on the airplane. And now we have our second variation.
In summary, Generative, Phil and Photoshop helped me rapidly develop these different campaign variations for these billboards. Instead of taking hours and hours creating these different variations, I was able to do those in minutes so that I can share this with our client and then rapidly iterate and create new variations for different audiences.
