Create a multilingual message
The multilingual message feature allows you to create content in multiple languages within a single campaign or journey. Learn how to create multilingual messages in Journey Optimizer.

Hello, and welcome to our tutorial on how to use multilingual messages in AJO. Today, I’m going to walk through two different flows on how you can accomplish multilingual messaging in AJO. One being a more manual flow and one being a more automated flow that will allow you to connect to third party translation providers to provide your translation. Let’s jump in. So what I’m gonna do now is I’m going to create a journey. And a journey is going to have an email node with the option to add languages. I will do some dragging and dropping of some nodes and select my email surface. Here, you’ll see that there is an option that says multilingual has not been added yet. And when I edit my content, I get the opportunity to add the languages option to my message. So here, you’ll note that I have this add languages option here. I could either turn that on now or turn that on after I author my first email. So I’m going to author my first email and then turn it on. So I’ll just show you what that might look like. I’m just going to use a template up here. This International Women’s Day template will suffice. I’ll make sure all the images load before I save. And now that I’ve created my first email, I am going to enable languages on this. So I’m first going to show you what our manual flow would look like with that setting that we created previously. So I’m going to select that. And once I do that, you’ll see that this left navigation here is opening for my Spanish and French locales. So I can give this a subject line. And you’ll notice that these are locked when you first activate it. So that’s why I authored my email content in English first, because then I’m able to copy primary to all locales, which means it will copy and paste every HTML piece in this version and put it onto my other versions. Which will allow me to go and switch out the actual copy rather than having to recode the HTML every single time. So I’m going to press Copy Primary to All Locales. Give the page a little refresh. And now you’ll see that I have these unlocked versions here. And for our manual flow, what I’ll do is I will edit my content in my email body and go and replace all of these pieces in a different language. So I’ll change my subject line to Spanish. And then I would go in to this and change out my reset email, password email here to the Spanish translation of that piece by piece. Now if I didn’t want to do this piece by piece and I have an existing contract with a translation provider that I might wanna use, I can instead use my automatic translation setting that I’ve set up. So I have set up my connection with our Bing translation provider. So I’m gonna change out this language setting and I’m gonna select my automated one instead and show you that flow. So again, you’ll notice that these are locked, but I can edit my content in my email to start. I’m gonna select that same template to use. And then, rather than having the option to copy the first one to all locales here, you’ll see that we have an option to send to translation. So this button will only appear if you’re using an automated flow and you’ve done the previous steps to connect to your provider. Let’s make sure that I add a subject line before we send it off. All right, so now I’m going to send this off to translation. Once I click that button, it will say translation is in progress. And note that your content is locked here. So if I wanted to change anything here on my email after I send it to translation, I would need to actually click this unlock button. And that would cancel the translation after it has been sent. So I can also check the status of my translations here. So this will tell us, hey, is my provider translating this? Is it done yet? Is it ready for review, etc? If I actually want to publish those steps as the translation provider is providing those pieces of copy in response, I’ll need to click this open translation option here. So once I click that open translation option, this is taking me to my projects and my tasks within this. An alternative way to access this is by going to your translations menu option and selecting the project that you had created previously. Looks like this translation task is the one that I just sent over and it’s ready for review. So I will click these three dots. I can see my review process here. And it will show me side by side my translations. So for example here, it shows gallery was changed to Galleria. And about is a Cirque de. And I can go through and since I enabled that approval workflow, I can approve these one by one or I can edit them. So I’m going to approve all of these. And I’m gonna finalize my approval. If this is with a translation provider who is a human rather than a machine like I’m using, this is really helpful to provide feedback and you can send them for retranslation as well if you need to. So I’m going to approve all of these friends translations as well and finalize my approval. Perfect. So now this has been reviewed and it’s time to publish. If I want to preview what it will look like before I actually publish it, I have the option there. So if I click Preview, it will show me these changes side by side. So as you can see, this is the French email and I’m comparing it to my source language which was in English. I can scroll down and see all of the differences and how it was translated from English to French. Looks like I might need to do some adjustment here on this button. Maybe I’ll make it a little bit longer because it looks like the translation doesn’t actually fit in the original button, so that’s something I’ll note. I’ll also take a look at Spanish and see how we look there. Looks like it might be the same case. But for the most part, my translations have been put in the correct spaces in my email. So I’ll go back here and press Publish. And rather than having to copy paste every line, this will automatically paste these things into AJL. So now I will go back to my campaign. I’m going to refresh it or reopen it. And here you’ll see that our translations were automatically published here. That’s all for multilingual messages. Thanks for joining this tutorial.
