Hey everybody, this is Doug. In this video. I want to show you how to create a web content-based segment or a content affinity segment, whatever you want to call it. You know, a segment of people who liked a certain page or a certain group of pages so that you can customize your marketing or your web experience for them. So here we are in these segments section in platform, and I’m going to go over to create segment, click there, and since this is going to a page or a certain group of pages, this is going to be an experience event segment, and so I’ll click on events. And then you need to decide if you’re going to build this based off of a page or a group of pages or a URL, et cetera. So let me go back to an event schema here. And this is based on a demo site that we have here called Luma. And you can see here that in this schema, in web, web page details, I have a couple of options. There’s a name here for page names, so I can base it on page name. There’s also a site section field, so I can use that, as well. And there’s even this URL field. So, I can use any of those in order to build this segment. But once again, not only do I need to know about these fields and that they are there, but also if they contain data, right? So I’m going to go to this Luma web events data set that I’ve created here, and we can kind of look in there. So, we can see that we have these page names. So, you can see the format of those. You can see content, Luma, US, EN, and then equipment or products, and then gear and watches, or however you want to look at these and see how these are formatted so that you can use this to build the segment. And if I go up here to web, web page details, you’ll see that I do have name and I have URL, but I don’t have site section, so I can’t use that with this data set. So, I can, though, go to the URL and say, well, maybe I just look for a URL that contains something very specific like gear or equipment or something like that. So those are some of my options. So basically, I’m saying as you’re going to create this, you’re going to need to know what your data looks like. You’re going to need to know what your schema looks like and the data that’s coming in so that you know about your options. So, we’re going to create ours with, let’s do URL contains gear, like this. And so, we can use all of our gear, whether it’s watches or another kind of gear. I guess we’ll just look for all the gear. So, I’ll go back to my segment. Now we can search for URL right here. So, if I just go URL, then we can see our webpage details URL and we can drag that over there. We can also, even if I just delete that, then you can go down through experience event. You can go to web, web page details, and URL right there. So it’s the same thing, just if you want to search for it or navigate to it, and we’ll drag that over, and there’s name if we had wanted to use that. I’ll drag URL over. And then we can say not equals this time, but we want it contains, and then we will say gear, and then we hit Enter, and it adds that, and that one’s good to go. Include audience who have at least one event or any event where URL contains gear. Now, if we want to get more specific, I mean, that will probably find everything we want, but if we want to get super specific, we can also delete this and actually use page views right here, this event type, and say drag that in. So, it’s not just any event, it’s a page view event. And by the way, that is also pulled from our schema. So, you can see here, if I can find it. Let me just kind of look around for event type.
Bear with me. Cue the Jeopardy theme. There it is, event type right there. So, you can see we have, for example, this page views event type. And so, if I go back to my segment, those are the ones that’ll show up right here, event types, page views. So, we can say, well, it does have to be a page view event type, and then we can click on it, and then we can say the URL. So, we have to drag that down. I’ll just search for it quickly. In the URL, web page details, URL, drag that down here, and that contains gear. Enter. Okay, so you can see how important it is to actually know what your data looks like and to know what your schema looks like so that you can really understand these hits that are coming in and how we can use them in this segment builder. And so now this says include the audience who have at least one page view event where the URL contains gear. And again, we could’ve used name or site section instead of URL, just again, based on the data that’s coming in. I hope that’s helpful to show you how to create a basic content-based segment, and good luck. -
