Learn how to create a general list of people in Marketo Engage.

Transcript
Static lists, or lists, are fixed groups of leads or contacts in Marketo Engage. Unlike smart lists, which dynamically update based on criteria, static lists do not change unless manually edited by user. By the end of this video, you will be able to understand what static lists are and how they differ from other list types in Marketo Engage. Identify use cases for static lists. Create and manage a static list and use static lists effectively in campaigns and reporting. Static lists can be built in the database and within marketing activities for use across programs and campaigns, data management processes, and reporting. They offer control and simplicity for tasks like one-time campaigns, event tracking, and people imports. They have similar features to smart lists but are not dynamic. People are added or removed from static lists using smart campaign flow steps, manual actions, or list imports. A single person in the database can be on many different static lists. Let’s review some common uses for static lists. Static lists are useful in scenarios where manual control is required or when the list criteria are not dynamic. Common examples include one-time email sends, importing leads, exclusions, or inclusions. You will find that static lists can be used in a variety of ways for marketing activities and data management. Now that we’ve reviewed some use cases, let’s learn how to work with a static list by importing one into the database for use in a program. Let’s say your organization hosted a trade show and you received a list of attendees after the event. There may be existing and new people on the list. You’d like to upload the attendee list into your Marketo Engage database for follow-up. You can do this in the marketing activity related to the trade show or in the database. In this case, we will import the list into a static list within the trade show program. To do so, select your trade show program and create the static list. To create the static list, right-click on the program or program folder and select New Local Asset. Choose list from the options. Name the list using best practices provided by your organization. Add leads to the list using the list import feature to configure how people will be added. Once you choose import, you will see the import progress and can get an alert when the list is done. After import, you can manually adjust and update members as needed, as well as reference the list for your follow-up communications. Now that you’ve seen how to import a list, we’ll review some additional details about list management. To manage a list, navigate to the list and people view. You can export your list to a CSV file. Use a quick find for individual people within the list. Send people on the list to add networks for retargeting. Customize the list view by adding or removing columns associated with field information. Select individual or multiple people and execute actions like removing them from the list, viewing their details, adding them to programs, changing their data values, or syncing them to a CRM. These types of updates are called single action steps. This video introduced you to static lists or lists, highlighted their features and benefits, explored their application and usage, provided guidance, round list creation and management, and demonstrated their role in reporting.
