Updated October 2026 isolated security patch for Adobe Commerce 2.4.8-p5
If you applied the original October 2026 isolated security patch for Adobe Commerce and Magento Open Source 2.4.8-p5, the Commerce Version Tool might report your isolated patches as UNKNOWN. Adobe updated the patch but kept the same filename, so the tool no longer recognizes the original file. Your environment isn’t necessarily vulnerable because the original patch includes the required fix. To resolve the issue, download and apply the revised patch.
Description description
On October 13, 2026, Adobe released a critical security update (APSB26-153) affecting Adobe Commerce and Magento Open Source. After the release, Adobe identified that the Adobe Commerce and Magento Open Source 2.4.8-p5 Community Edition portion of the October 2026 isolated security patch did not include an intended defense-in-depth hardening change.
The October patch was updated to include this additional change. The revised patch uses the same patch filename as the original file.
The omitted change was not the primary fix for the associated vulnerability. The required protection for the vulnerable Adobe Commerce functionality was included in the original patch. Adobe’s validation confirmed that the original and revised patch files both protect customers against the vulnerability addressed by this change. The additional validator update provides defense in depth.
This issue does not expose Adobe Commerce installations because the affected functionality is an Adobe Commerce feature.
What happened?
During preparation of the October 2026 security update, the Adobe Commerce portion of the fix was included, but a related Community Edition validator change was not included in the initial 2.4.8-p5 patch file.
Adobe subsequently updated the 2.4.8-p5 Community Edition patch file to include the validator change.
Because the revised file has the same patch name, customers who applied the original file might see the Commerce Version Tool report the July, September, or October isolated patches as UNKNOWN. This can occur because the tool evaluates the installation against the revised patch definition rather than the originally downloaded file.
An UNKNOWN result in this specific situation does not by itself mean that the environment is vulnerable. However, customers should apply the revised patch so that their installation matches the current Adobe-distributed patch and can be verified successfully.
Who is affected?
You should take the actions in this article if all of the following conditions apply:
- You are running Adobe Commerce or Magento Open Source 2.4.8-p5.
- You downloaded the October 2026 Community Edition isolated patch shortly after it was initially published.
- You applied the patch file named
248p5-2026-10-001-CE.patch. - The Commerce Version Tool now reports relevant patches as
UNKNOWN,248p5-2026-10-002-CEas missing, or you cannot confirm that the current version of the October patch is installed.
Resolution resolution
What should I do?
- Download the current October 2026 patch
Download the applicable October 2026 isolated security patch again from the official Adobe Commerce security update documentation.
Do not reuse a previously downloaded copy of the 2.4.8-p5 October Community Edition patch. - Review all installed Commerce components
An isolated security update can contain separate patch files for Community Edition, Adobe Commerce, B2B, and other components. Apply every patch file that corresponds to a component installed in your environment.
For Adobe Commerce installations, this normally means reviewing both the Community Edition and Adobe Commerce patch files, along with any applicable B2B or additional component patches. - Replace the original October Community Edition patch
If the original248p5-2026-10-001-CE.patchis installed, reverse it by using your established patch-management process. Then apply the newly downloaded version of the patch.
Apply and validate the revised patch in an integration or staging environment before deploying it to production. - Confirm that previous monthly patches are installed
Monthly isolated security patches are non-cumulative. Customers must be on the latest supported-pbaseline for their release line and apply any missed monthly patches in release order.
For a fully patched environment, confirm that all applicable isolated patches released before the October 2026 patch are also installed.
How do I verify that all required patches are applied?
Adobe recommends using the Commerce Version Tool for both Adobe Commerce on Cloud infrastructure and Adobe Commerce on-premises installations. The tool reports installed patches, missing patches and the vulnerability status of the installation.
-
Confirm that the Commerce Version Tool is installed
From the Adobe Commerce project root, run:php vendor/bin/patch-status --version
If the command returns a version, the tool is installed.
If the command is not found, apply the applicable July 2026 Community Edition isolated patch for your release line. The Commerce Version Tool was introduced through that patch and is installed atvendor/bin/patch-status. -
Run the patch-status report
From the Adobe Commerce project root, run:php vendor/bin/patch-status -

About 248p5-2026-10-002-CE
The Commerce Version Tool tracks the original and revised versions of the October 2.4.8-p5 Community Edition patch as two separate entries:248p5-2026-10-001-CE- the content published in the original patch file248p5-2026-10-002-CE- the additional validator change added to the revised patch file
Both entries are delivered by the single
248p5-2026-10-001-CE.patchfile in the ZIP. There is no separate248p5-2026-10-002-CEfile to download.
If the tool lists248p5-2026-10-002-CEundermissing_patches, your installation has the originally published patch file. Follow the steps in “What should I do?” to download the current ZIP and replace it. After the revised patch is applied, both entries appear underapplied_patches.
For the installation to be considered fully patched:- All applicable monthly security patches should appear as applied.
missing_patchesshould not list a required patch.- Applicable vulnerabilities should return
PROTECTED. - Relevant patches should not remain
UNKNOWN.
If the tool continues to report UNKNOWN after the revised October patch and all prerequisite patches are applied, contact Adobe Commerce Support and include the complete Commerce Version Tool output.
Alternative verification for Adobe Commerce on Cloud
Adobe Commerce on Cloud customers can use the Quality Patches Tool to verify the status of an individual isolated patch.
Run the following command and replace %patch-name% with the applicable patch filename:
vendor/bin/magento-patches -n status | grep "%patch-name%\|Status"
The patch should return an Applied status. The Quality Patches Tool verifies an individual patch, while the Commerce Version Tool is the recommended method for determining whether the overall installation is fully patched.
What if I already applied the original patch?
Adobe’s investigation determined that the original patch contained the required protection for the associated Adobe Commerce vulnerability. Applying the revised patch is still required to align the environment with the current Adobe patch, include the additional defense-in-depth change, and restore consistent patch-verification results.
Apply the revised patch through your normal change-management process and rerun the Commerce Version Tool after deployment.
The Commerce Version Tool reports a missing 248p5-2026-10-002-CE entry as the clearest indicators that an installation still has the original patch file. Use that as the confirmation that the replacement steps above are required, and rerun the tool afterward to verify both entries are applied.
