The video below demonstrates how to delegate subdomains.

Transcript

In this video, you will learn how to delegate subdomains using Adobe Campaign Control Panel.

A subdomain is a division of your domain that can be used to isolate your brands or various types of traffic. There are several reasons to set up subdomains. For example, splitting your email traffic between batch and transactional communication can preserve the reputation of your domain and other subdomains and so ensure deliverability of your campaigns. Another example is if you are managing several brands. You might want to use a branded URL as well as a branded subdomain to send emails from that particular brand. Now let’s delegate a subdomain. Navigate to the Adobe Campaign Control Panel homepage and click on the subdomains and certificates card. Let’s first take a look at the instance list. You will notice that only production instances are available. Dev and stage instances are grayed out. This is because subdomains are only delegated for production instances. After you select the instance you would like to work with, if you previously delegated subdomains for this instance, you will see a list of all subdomains that have been delegated with the delegation type, information on SSL certificates, as well as the use case marketing or transactional or both. To ensure your deliverability reputation, we recommend that you use different subdomains for transactional and for marketing use cases and not one subdomain for both. Now if you have not already delegated a subdomain, the list will be empty. So let’s delegate a new subdomain. Click on set up new subdomain. Here you can choose how you would like to delegate your subdomain. You have two options. We recommend delegating your subdomain to Adobe using the full subdomain delegation method. With full subdomain delegation, you only need to create the subdomain and namespace records. Adobe will then configure all DNS records required for Adobe Campaign. In this setup, Adobe is fully responsible for managing the subdomain and all DNS records with the minimal effort required from your side.

Now once you click next, you will be provided with a list of DNS records. Click on copy to copy the records to your clipboard. Now you must either provide those DNS records to your IT team to delegate or if you have access to your hosting solution, you can use them directly. Let me show you how this is done in a domain hosting solution.

I will create a subdomain related to my domain sakibova.com. I select the record type nameserver NS. I now need to define the name of the subdomain. For example, I would like to delegate a subdomain specifically for my holidays brand. So I’ll type the host name, but I do not need to type the rest of the domain sakibova.com. Next I need to add the information that I copied from the control panel. My domain hosting solution actually requires me to create four separate records, which I already did. I started with A, then B, then C, etc. You can see the entries above. Once this is done, I can finalize the setup in the control panel. So let’s navigate back.

Now let’s click on the next button and select the use case. In this case, I want marketing communications to be sent from this subdomain. Now I have to add the subdomain that I just created.

Once I’ve verified that it is the correct subbook domain, I can submit it. You see, I get the green message saying the domain has been received.

I can now check the job logs and the status of my domain delegation by clicking on the details. And here I can see that the domain is being delegated, the NS check has already passed, and all required records will be created.

Subdomain delegation can take up to several days. The longest step in the process is called domain setup validation. At this point, we submit your subdomains to our campaign teams, will validate the setup and configuration of your new subdomain, including enrolling it in the necessary domain-based feedback loops, such as Yahoo. Once the subdomain has been configured, you can review the details on the subdomain details page. Here you can see all the DNS records that have been configured for that subdomain, as well as check that resource tracking and Miro page have been correctly configured for your subdomain. Here you can also add a text record to the list of your DNS records. For example, a Google text record in order to improve your deliverability with Gmail. Thank you for watching!

For more information on renewing a subdomain’s SSL certificate see the product documentation.
