This page provides information about functionality that is included in the Fourth Quarter 2023 release. These enhancements are planned to become available in the Production environment for all customers with the 23.10 release on October 26 and 27, 2023.

Off-cycle features (those releasing to Production prior to the Fourth Quarter 2023 release date) are highlighted in yellow.

IMPORTANT

The 23.3 release included the option to move your organization to monthly releases. Therefore, Workfront is changing the numbering scheme of releases to account for both monthly and quarterly release tracks.

If you are on the fast release (monthly) track, the release after 23.3 is 23.8, on August 31, 2023.
If you are on the quarterly release track, the release after 23.3 is 23.10, in the week of October 26, 2023.

Quarterly releases will include functionality from three monthly releases. For example, the 23.10 quarterly release will include functionality released in the 23.8, 23.9, and 23.10 monthly releases.

Monthly and quarterly releases are planned to be available on the last Thursday of the month.

Proof and document decisions available to legacy license model customers

In production

Legacy customers who have not yet transitioned to the new Adobe Workfront license model can now see data with the number of proof/document decisions per user per month, in a single report. This data is available when you run a Users Decisions report.

Calculated fields on custom forms can now use the $$USER wildcard

The $$USER wildcard is now available in calculated custom fields and external lookup fields on the new form designer.

Add value options from an external API to a custom form

In production

A new field type, External lookup, is now available on the custom form designer. When you have data stored on an external system, this field type allows you to load options from an external API and filter based on other field values in the custom form.

Subtasks now available on Adobe Workfront Boards

In production

When you add a connected card to a board for a Workfront task, any existing subtasks are imported onto the card. Also, when you create a subtask on a connected card, a subtask is added to the Workfront task.

Enhancements to user assignments on boards and cards

Enhancements are now available that add flexibility when adding users to boards and cards in Adobe Workfront Boards.

Add documents on connected cards

In production

You can now attach documents on connected cards on Adobe Workfront Boards. Any documents you add on the card become available on the Documents tab of the connected task or issue, and the same file types are supported in both areas.

Documents available on connected cards as view-only

In production

For connected cards on Adobe Workfront Boards, you can now view documents such as images and PDFs. You can either preview a document in the browser or download it to your computer.

Board view of a project now available for issues

You can now access a Board view of a project issue list. The Kanban board can help you track the progress of the issues in a more visual way than viewing them in the list.

Date effective cost and billing rates

In production

Date effective cost and billing rates are now available on the company, user, and job role objects in Workfront. When date effective rates are applied to a project, and hours are logged on project tasks, the costs and revenue are calculated using the specified rates for each time period.

Delegate work button for Project, Task and Issue widgets

In production

A commonly requested feature of the old home page, we've now added a delegate button to the My Work, My Tasks, and My Issues widgets so that you can easily delegate work when you're out of the office. Note that work delegation must be enabled in your Workfront environment for the button to appear.

New Boards widget for New Home

In a major new addition to the work management options available in New Home, you can now display a board on your home page!

New Contributor default landing page: New Home

In production

New Home is now the default landing page for Contributor/Requestor accounts. This new default home page includes a number of widgets specifically selected to best enable Contributors to manage their work right away.

Changes to work tracking in New Home

Based on user feedback, we have removed the page-wide time range filter and summary bar that tallied tasks due and completed. Project, Task, and Issue widgets each have built-in filtering features allowing you to customize their scope on an individual basis.

New quick action buttons for the My Work widget

Further expanding your ability to manage work directly from New Home, new quick action buttons have been added to the My Work widget.

New filter options for New Home

In production

New filter options are now available for the My Work widget in New Home. Options include filters for object types (tasks, issues, and requests) and statuses (not ready, ready to start, working on, and completed).

Custom terminology support for New Home

In production

To better meet the unique needs of organizations, New Home now utilizes custom terminology for objects as defined in an instance's layout templates. For example, if "Project" objects have been relabeled as "Campaigns" in your Workfront instance, the My Projects widget will instead display as My Campaigns in New Home.

Try New Home button removed for accounts that have disabled New Home

In production

The Try New Home button is no longer present for accounts where New Home has been disabled. New Home must be re-enabled by the system administrator before individual users can use the button to try New Home.

Change to New Home default widget set

The To-dos widget, which requires permission to create tasks, is now only present in the default widget set for users with the Standard, Plan, or Work license types. Additionally, the widget has been automatically removed from the Home pages of users with all other license types.

In this release, the approval process has been streamlined for both creating approvals and approving/reviewing documents, in addition to new functionality.

This feature is part of a phased release and is currently only available for specific customers.

Real-time updates on task list

Tasks lists now update in real-time. Changes made to a task are updated in the task list, so that a user viewing the task list can see the change without refreshing the page.

Updated design when adding a new issue to a project

In production

This update has been announced with the 23.3 release.

We have updated the New Issue box which displays when submitting a new issue to a project. Now, the interface matches the New request box which displays when submitting a new request to a request queue.

Dynamic re-calculation of calculated fields on forms

In production

Calculated fields on a form attached to an object are now dynamically re-calculated in real time when dependent values on any form on the page are modified. This allows you to see the updated results without saving the form.

Set planned hours on child recurring tasks with Simple duration type without assignments

In production

We have made a change in the way Planned Hours are allocated to recurring tasks with no assignments and a Simple duration type. Now, when you set Planned Hours on a new recurring task with a Simple Duration Type and no assignments, the hours are also allocated to the individual recurrences. Prior to this change, the hours were not saved for individual recurrences when the parent tasks were unassigned.

Workfront Fusion enhancements

API version 17

API version 17 was released on October 12, 2023. For API version 17, we’ve modified some resources and endpoints. Some of the changes support new functionality, and others make it easier for you to use the information available through the API.

Functionality soon to be removed from Workfront

The following functionality is soon to be removed from Workfront:

Deprecation of the Proof mobile app with 23.10

We will be officially deprecating the Proof mobile app with the 23.10 release. The general Workfront mobile app has been enhanced with new proofing functionality (see the release note under Workfront Mobile enhancements for more information), and users are advised to begin using it for proofing work as soon as possible.

Note that the Workfront mobile app requires a Workfront login. External users and guests can continue to use the Proof app for proofing work; however, it is no longer supported and will become unavailable with 23.10.

Workstreams removed for accounts not using them

For accounts that have never created a workstream in Adobe Workfront Boards, the Workstreams area has been removed from the Boards dashboard as of October 11, 2023. Accounts that do use workstreams still have access to them. Enhanced scrum functionality will be addressed in future releases.
