If assets (such as images) are managed via Adobe Experience Manager and used in Journey Optimizer, they are subject to an asset lifecycle policy with a Time-To-Live (TTL). After the TTL period expires, assets may be removed from storage (CDN), which can result in broken images in emails that reference those assets.
note note
---
NOTE
The asset TTL is managed by Adobe Journey Optimizer backend services and is not currently configurable by customers. The current TTL period is set to 730 days for all Journey Optimizer organizations.
To restore image availability when assets have expired:
-
Republish the affected assets: Navigate to the asset in Adobe Experience Manager and republish it. This will make the asset available again in the CDN.
-
Update content references: If you are using content fragments or templates that reference expired assets:
- Create a draft or clone of the content fragment
- Re-add or re-select the asset
- Publish the updated content
-
Proactive management: To avoid future disruptions, consider periodically reviewing and republishing assets used in active email campaigns, especially those approaching the TTL expiration period.
note caution
---
CAUTION
Republishing requirements apply to all environments (production, stage, development). Ensure that assets remain available by managing their lifecycle appropriately.
Yes, Adobe is actively working on enhancements to refine the asset expiration and lifecycle management logic. These improvements aim to provide better visibility into asset lifecycle status and reduce the risk of broken images in live campaigns.
