Considerations for updating goals

Consider the following when updating progress on goals:

  • Workfront Goals automatically calculates the progress of a goal when you update the progress of its progress indicators.

    note tip
    TIP
You cannot update progress directly on a goal. You must update the progress of the goal’s progress indicators (activities, results, connected projects) which in turn updates the progress of the goal. To update the progress on projects, you must update the tasks on the project.

  • You must create goals and activate them before you can update their progress.

    note important
    IMPORTANT
You cannot update the progress of goals that are drafted, closed, or inactive.
  • The first time you or someone else updates the progress of a result or activity on a goal, the goal Progress changes from New and Workfront Goals starts recording progress and progress status updates on the goal.

To update progress on goals:

  1. Click the Main Menu icon > Goals in the upper-right corner.

This opens the goal list. All goals that you have access to view display by default.

Alternatively, you can click Goal Alignment in the left panel.

  2. From the Goal List, click the name of a goal to open the goal page.

  3. Click Progress indicators in the left panel.

The Progress Indicators list displays all progress indicators for the goal you selected.

    note note
    NOTE
    • You can only update results and activities.

      • You must update the progress indicators of children goals to show progress on the children goals.

      • You must update the tasks on the connected projects to show progress on the projects.

In turn, the children goals’ progress and projects’ progress drive the progress of the selected goal.

  4. To update the progress of a result or activity, click the value inside the Actual Progress column of the result or activity and type a number to update its value, then press Enter.

The progress bar for the progress indicator in the Progress column and the progress of the goal in the goal header update immediately.
