Pause events

The Pause events metric counts every distinct pause start event received during a session, including multiple pauses within the same session. Pair it with Total pause duration to derive the average pause length, and with Paused impacted streams to count sessions that paused at least once.

How this metric is calculated

The media backend increments this count on every pause start event. A single continuous pause generates one increment regardless of its duration. Heartbeat pings sent while the player remains paused all belong to the same pause period and do not increment the count again. The metric is reported on the close call.
