Custom metadata tabs missing during bulk editing in AEM search results

This article explains why custom metadata tabs might not appear when you bulk edit assets in Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service. The visibility of metadata tabs depends on the metadata schema shared across the selected assets.

Description description

Environment

Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service (all versions)

Issue/Symptoms

  • Custom metadata tabs (for example, Product, Campaign, or Workfront) might not appear in the Properties dialog when assets are bulk edited from search results.
  • The tabs appear as expected when assets are selected directly from a folder that uses the same metadata schema.
  • This behavior depends on the asset selection method and metadata configuration, not the number of selected assets.

Cause

AEM bulk Properties displays only the metadata tabs and fields shared by all selected assets. Assets selected from search results often use different metadata schemas, causing custom tabs that are not common across all assets to be hidden.

Resolution resolution

Follow the steps below to resolve the issue:

  1. Ensure that all assets selected for bulk editing share the same metadata schema, including the custom tabs you expect to see.
  2. When possible, select assets directly from a single folder where all assets are governed by the same metadata schema.
  3. If selecting assets via search, review the result set to confirm that assets do not have differing metadata schemas.
  4. If you require certain custom tabs to always appear during bulk edit, update the metadata schema so those tabs are present for all relevant asset types and folders.

Note: After making these adjustments, verify that the expected custom tabs appear in the bulk Properties dialog.
