Add a target node to the final level in an experience
Experiences with decision tree targeting only
When you add a target node to the bottom-most level in the experience — whether it’s the root “All” node, a target-specific node, or an “Everything Else” node — you define the target directly and don’t need to create a sibling node. Adding a bottom-level node creates the target node and an additional “Everything Else” node at the same level.
Using the AI-driven editor (Beta) ai-editor
While you’re creating or editing the experience, you can describe the new target and its parent branch to the AI agent. Review the resulting tree before saving. To add the target directly in the canvas:
-
Hold the cursor over the parent node at the end of the branch, and click +.
-
In New targeting level, select the target category, and then click Add targeting level.
-
Specify the target values for the category:
-
For audience targets:
-
To add the first segment, locate and select the audience segment.
-
To add segments to an existing segment group:
-
Select the segment group.
-
(Optional) Change the group logic to Include Any, Include All, or Exclude All, as needed.
Include Any matches users in at least one selected segment; Include All requires membership in all selected segments.
Exclude All isn’t available for the first segment group. For an audience that includes only exclusions, build the audience using Include Any, and then exclude that audience when you add it to a placement within your DSP.
-
Locate and select the additional segments.
-
-
To add a new segment group:
-
Add a group.
-
(Optional) Change the logic between the previous group and the new group to And or Or, as needed.
And requires users to meet both groups’ conditions; Or requires them to meet at least one group’s conditions.
-
Locate and select the segments for the new group.
-
(Optional) Change the group logic to Include Any, Include All, or Exclude All, as needed.
-
-
-
For geographical targets:
-
Select the locations within the geographical category you chose, such as countries, regions, or cities.
-
For postal code targets, select the country, and enter the postal codes to include. To enter multiple postal codes in bulk, separate them with commas or put each code on a separate line.
-
-
For data pass targets, enter the key and value to match.
The default data pass key is configured in the Data Pass field in the Advanced section of the general experience settings. Customize the key for the target if needed.
-
For retargeting pixel targets, select the retargeting pixel, and specify the values for any pixel attributes required to show the creatives.
The available attributes are configured in the retargeting pixel settings.
-
For device targets, select the values within the device category you chose: device types, operating systems, or browsers.
-
-
(If available; optional) Select Split Nodes to create a separate target node for each selected value, with its own creative bundle assignments. Otherwise, the selected values are grouped in one target node.
-
Click Add Node.
-
(Optional) To rename a user-defined target node, click … > Edit Name, enter the Node Name, and then click Save.
You can’t rename an “All” or “Everyone Else” node.
-
Assign creative bundles to the new final nodes, including the fallback branch, or use default creatives when you save the experience.
Using the manual editor manual-editor
Open the manual editor before following these steps.
-
Under the node at which you want to insert the target, click
, and then select Insert New Target.
-
Specify the target values for the category:
-
For audience targets:
-
Select Audience, and click Click to Browse to open the Audience Targeting options.
-
Configure the audience segments and groups:
-
To add the first segment, locate the segment in the left panel, and select the check box next to the segment name.
-
To add segments to an existing segment group:
-
Click the segment group in the right panel.
-
(Optional) Change the group logic to Include Any, Include All, or Exclude All, as needed.
Include Any matches users in at least one selected segment; Include All requires membership in all selected segments.
Exclude All isn’t available for the first segment group. For an audience that includes only exclusions, build the audience using Include Any, and then exclude that audience when you add it to a placement within your DSP.
-
Locate the new segment in the left panel, and select the check box next to the segment name. Repeat for each additional segment.
The segment group is automatically updated with the new segments.
-
-
To add a new segment group:
-
Click + New Group in the right panel.
-
(Optional) Change the logic between the previous group and the new group to And or Or, as needed.
And requires users to meet both groups’ conditions; Or requires them to meet at least one group’s conditions.
-
Locate the segments for the new group in the left panel, and select the check boxes next to the segment names.
-
(Optional) Change the group logic to Include Any, Include All, or Exclude All, as needed.
-
-
-
Click Create.
-
Click Apply.
-
-
For geographical targets, select a single geographical category (such as Geo: Country), and then do the following:
-
Click Click to Browse to open your Geo Targeting options, specify one or more of the geographical targets, and then click Save.
Zip code targets have bulk editing options. To paste multiple zip codes, click the Paste postal codes tab, select the country, paste or enter zip codes separated by commas or on separate lines, and then click Include All. To remove an included zip code target, hold the cursor over the target and click
Remove.
-
(Optional) To create multiple target nodes when multiple geographical targets are specified, select Split targets to create nodes.
This feature creates a separate target node (with separate creative bundles) for each specified geographical target. If you don’t split the targets, then the user must belong to all of the specified locations (a Boolean
ANDstatement). -
Click Apply.
-
-
For a data pass target, select Data Pass, optionally customize the data pass key, enter a single data pass value, and then click Apply.
The default data pass key is configured in the Data Pass field in the Advanced section of the general experience settings. Customize the key for the target if needed.
-
For a retargeting pixel target, select RT Pixel, select a single retargeting pixel to use and the values for any of the pixel’s attributes that are required to show the creatives, and then click Apply.
The available attributes are configured in the retargeting pixel settings.
-
For device targets, do the following:
-
Select a single target category (Device: Type, Device: OS, or Device: Browser), and then select the targets.
-
(Optional) To create multiple target nodes when multiple geographical targets are specified, select Split targets to create nodes.
This feature creates a separate target node (with separate creative bundles) for each specified geographical target. If you don’t split the targets, then the user must belong to all of the specified locations (a Boolean
ANDstatement). -
Click Apply.
-
-
-
(Optional) Specify a custom branch name for a user-defined branch.
By default, user-defined branches are labeled with the applied targets.
You can’t create a custom branch name for an “All” or “Everyone Else” branch.
-
Hold the cursor over the target node and click … > Edit Name.
-
Enter the Node Name, and then click Save.
-
-
(Optional) Assign creative bundles to the new target node and to the “Everything Else” node.
Save the experience save
The following steps apply to both editors.
-
To save the experience, click Save in the decision tree header.
In the AI-driven editor (Beta), wait for the assistant to finish processing before saving.
-
If a warning indicates that scheduling is incomplete, click OK, correct the schedules so that bundles cover all dates in the ad schedule, and then click Save again.
-
In the save confirmation dialog, do one of the following:
-
If every final node has assigned creative bundles or uses default creatives, click OK in the Save & Publish dialog to save and publish the tree.
-
If any final nodes don’t have creatives, choose one of the following:
-
Click Save as Draft to save without publishing. You can’t generate an ad tag for a draft experience.
-
Click Assign Default Creatives to use the experience’s default creatives for unassigned nodes. Review the updated tree, and then click Save and OK.
-
Click Continue Edit to return to the tree without saving.
