Create an experience with decision tree targeting

Create a targeted ad experience using a decision tree. Each experience uses ads from a single creative library.

The AI-driven editor (Beta) opens by default. You can configure the tree through the AI agent or edit its canvas directly. You can also switch to the existing manual editor.

NOTE
  • Once you create a targeted experience, you can’t later change it to a non-targeted experience, which uses a different workflow.
  • Make sure that your ad experiences include targeting that’s compatible with the campaigns in which you’ll implement it. Hierarchical targeting behavior may vary by DSP. When you upload an ad experience tag to Advertising DSP and attach it to a placement, ad-level targeting is applied on top of (not instead of) placement-level targeting. For example, if a placement targets users in Australia and an ad targets users in Japan, then the ad will target the “Everyone Else” branch.

Create the experience

  1. In the main menu, click Creative > Experiences.

  2. Click Create New Experience.

  3. Enter the general experience settings, with Targeting enabled.

  4. Click Create.

The AI-driven decision tree editor opens for the new experience.

  5. Configure the tree using either of the following procedures.

Configure the tree using the AI-driven editor (Beta) ai-editor

  1. In the conversation, describe the targeting structure you want, including the criteria for each branch and how to handle viewers who don’t match a specified target.

  2. Review the tree in the canvas. To request changes, describe them in the conversation. Wait for the assistant to finish processing before interacting with the canvas.

  3. (Optional) Refine the tree directly in the canvas:

  4. Assign creative bundles to the final nodes, and optionally customize creative optimization and scheduling and tracking URLs.

To publish the experience, you must assign bundles to each final node or use the experience’s default creatives. You can assign defaults to unassigned nodes when you save.

  5. (Optional) Edit the general experience settings:

    1. To save any tree changes you want to keep, click Save.

    2. Click Experience Form, and then click Yes to discard unsaved tree changes and open the form.

    3. Edit the general experience settings, and then click Save.

      The AI-driven editor opens.

  6. Save the experience.

Configure the tree using the manual editor manual-editor

  1. In the AI-driven editor, click Manual Decision Tree, and then click Yes to leave the AI-driven editor.

Save any AI-editor changes you want to keep before switching. Confirming the switch discards unsaved tree changes.

  2. (Optional) Change the view settings:

    • Zoom in or out by moving the slider.

    • Switch between vertical and horizontal views by clicking View as Vertical Tree or View as Horizontal Tree .

Your view settings are saved until you log out.

  3. Configure the ad targets and corresponding creatives:

  4. (Optional) To edit the general experience settings, click Experience Form and edit the general experience settings.

  5. Save the experience.

Save the experience save

The following steps apply to both editors.

  1. To save the experience, click Save in the decision tree header.

In the AI-driven editor (Beta), wait for the assistant to finish processing before saving.

  2. If a warning indicates that scheduling is incomplete, click OK, correct the schedules so that bundles cover all dates in the ad schedule, and then click Save again.

  3. In the save confirmation dialog, do one of the following:

    • If every final node has assigned creative bundles or uses default creatives, click OK in the Save & Publish dialog to save and publish the tree.

    • If any final nodes don’t have creatives, choose one of the following:

      • Click Save as Draft to save without publishing. You can’t generate an ad tag for a draft experience.

      • Click Assign Default Creatives to use the experience’s default creatives for unassigned nodes. Review the updated tree, and then click Save and OK.

      • Click Continue Edit to return to the tree without saving.

Ad tags and video transcoding for saved experiences

When the experience is live, Creative automatically creates one ad tag for each applicable creative size or video duration. You can then export an ad tag and implement it in a DSP.

For video ad experiences, video creatives are transcoded automatically by Adobe Advertising DSP as VAST 2.0 tags so you can preview them. You can optionally apply transcoding for a different DSP to any video ad experience tag.
