Understanding folders understanding-folders

Folders inside a program can be used to organize your smart campaigns and assets. These are different from campaign folders.

Create a folder create-a-folder

  1. Go to the Marketing Activities area.

  2. Right-click a program and select New Folder.

    {width="600" modal="regular"}

  3. Name the new folder and press Enter.

    {width="600" modal="regular"}

The new folder is now ready for your local assets.

Rename a folder rename-a-folder

  1. Right-click the folder and select Rename Folder.

    {width="600" modal="regular"}

  2. Type in a new name and press Enter.

    {width="600" modal="regular"}

Delete a folder delete-a-folder

NOTE
Ensure the folder is empty before deleting it.
  1. Right-click the folder and select Delete Folder.

    {width="600" modal="regular"}

Archive a folder archive-a-folder

In Marketo you have the ability to convert existing folders into Archive folders. Archive folders exist in Marketing Activities, Database, and Design Studio.

{width="600" modal="regular"}

When you archive a folder:

  • The folder and assets are no longer visible in search results. If you search for a Program or Event that is inside an archived folder, the results return a collapsed view of the archived folder
  • The assets in the folder no longer appear in auto suggest
  • Archived templates are not available when creating an email or landing page in Design Studio
  • Archived pages cannot be used in landing page test groups

Functionality that will not change when archiving:

  • Global search still finds results in archived folders
  • You can use a filter to select archived assets for use in reports

Disable Campaigns on archive disable-campaigns-archive

When a folder or program is archived, or an active Smart Campaign is moved into a folder that is already archived, Marketo Engage stops the affected campaigns from running:

  • Triggered campaigns are deactivated.
  • Batch campaigns have their pending runs canceled.
  • Executable campaigns have no running state, so no action is taken.

Supported actions

The following actions deactivate campaigns:

  • Dragging and dropping a folder containing active campaigns into an archived folder
  • Dragging and dropping a program (any type) containing active campaigns into an archived folder
  • Dragging and dropping a single Smart Campaign into an archived folder
  • Right-clicking Move on a single Smart Campaign into an archived folder
  • Right-clicking Move Folder on a folder containing active campaigns into an archived folder
  • Right-clicking Move on a program containing active campaigns into an archived folder
  • Right-clicking Convert to Archived Folder on a folder to archive it in place without moving it
NOTE
If a Smart Campaign inside the folder or program being archived is referenced elsewhere (e.g., via a “Request Campaign” flow step), archiving is blocked to prevent breaking that other campaign.
