Export panel

The Export panel is where you can export your assets as general files or send assets directly to other applications.

Send to…

The Send to… options allow you to directly send your asset to other applications installed on your system. This is generally much faster than importing and exporting assets.

Currently Sampler supports sending to:

  • Substance 3D Painter: import materials and environments that you can use while texturing your assets.
  • Substance 3D Stager: imports environment lights to change the mood of your scene. Only available with environment lights, disabled for materials.

Materials are always sent as SBSAR, environments as EXR.

Export

Click Export as… to export the asset you’re currently working on. Select whether to modify General settings or Material settings from the left menu.

General settings

With General settings selected, you can change the name of the material, and the save location. You can also toggle whether to create a subfolder for the material. This can be useful when exporting in an image format which creates multiple files.

Material settings

With Material settings selected, you can change various parameters to control how the material will be exported:

Setting
Description
Format
Choose whether to export as an SBS, SBSAR, or as a collection of images in a specific image format
Preset
Select a preset to automatically organize your export for a specific application. More information about presets is available here. Presets are only available when an image format is selected.
Compression

Choose whether compression prioritises speed or efficiency

  • Auto: Allow Sampler to choose.
  • Best: Maximize compression efficiency for smaller files.
  • None: No compression means faster opening and closing of the exported files but larger file sizes.
Resolution

Change the resolution of your export. This option appears differently based on which Format is selected

  • SBSAR/SBS: Select a default width and height for the material. These can be updated later.
  • Image format: Select between Layers output which exports each map at the size defined by the layer stack, or Override all which allows you to specify a width and height for export.
Material model
Select whether to export as an Adobe Standard Material or as an OpenPBR material. Which option you select should depend on which other applications you are using in your pipeline. Different channels will become available based on the Material model.
Channels
Toggle which channels should be exported as part of your asset.
NOTE
For more information on the Export dialog options and other information like file formats, see the Export article and its sub-article on the Export Window.

Once you’re happy with the export settings, click Export. Your export will appear in the export queue which shows a list of recent exports. Click the folder icon on any export to open the file location of that export.
