How to access and analyze CDN usage analytics in AEM

Customers often request CDN usage analytics, including request volume, protocol distribution, cache performance, traffic patterns, latency, and historical usage reports. In AEM as a Cloud Service, these metrics are available through Cloud Manager dashboards, CDN log downloads, Adobe’s CDN Log Analysis Tooling, and optional log forwarding to a SIEM platform. In AEM 6.5 On-Premise, Adobe doesn’t have access to customer-managed CDN logs, so analytics must be obtained directly from the CDN provider or supported third-party tools.

Description description

Environment

  • Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service (AEMaaCS)
  • AEM as a Cloud Service – Sites
  • Adobe Experience Manager 6.5 On-Premise

Issue/Symptoms

  • CDN performance metrics aren’t visible in Cloud Manager.
  • Daily request analytics aren’t available and only monthly usage data appears.
  • Protocol distribution details for HTTP/1.0, HTTP/1.1, HTTP/2, or HTTP/3 aren’t available.
  • Historical CDN traffic, cache performance, or latency reports can’t be retrieved.

Cause

AEM provides detailed CDN analytics only in AEM as a Cloud Service, where Adobe manages the CDN infrastructure and exposes usage data through Cloud Manager dashboards, CDN log downloads, and log forwarding capabilities. AEM On-Premise uses customer-managed CDN infrastructure, so Adobe doesn’t have access to CDN traffic logs. Detailed reporting requires CDN log analysis, log forwarding, or analytics provided by the CDN vendor.

Resolution resolution

Follow these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Determine whether the environment runs on AEM as a Cloud Service or AEM On-Premise.
  2. If you use AEM as a Cloud Service, open the Cloud Manager CDN Performance Dashboard and review available metrics such as cache efficiency, performance trends, alerts, and CDN health.
  3. Download CDN logs from Cloud Manager > Environments > Logs > CDN Logs for the required date range.
  4. Analyze downloaded logs using Adobe’s CDN Log Analysis Tooling to review cache hit ratios, top requested URLs, protocol distribution, traffic trends, and latency metrics.
  5. Configure Log Forwarding when continuous monitoring or SIEM integration is required.
  6. Generate reports from dashboard metrics and downloaded CDN logs to retrieve daily request counts, protocol distribution, and historical traffic patterns.
  7. For AEM On-Premise, obtain CDN analytics directly from the CDN provider or approved traffic analytics tools because Adobe can’t access customer-managed CDN logs.
