In this video, we’ll show you how to create and publish audiences discovered in Customer Journey Analytics to real-time customer profile in Adobe Experience Platform.

Publishing audiences lets you use the insights you’ve uncovered in Customer Journey Analytics for customer targeting and personalization. There are several ways to create and publish audiences in CJA. In this video, we’ll walk you through how to do it from a segment. To follow along and create segments and audiences, make sure you have product administrator rights for Customer Journey Analytics.

Let’s start by creating a segment. For this example, let’s say we want to target engaged, repeat customers who’ve recently placed two or more online orders. These customers are ideal for personalized offers and loyalty campaigns. From the main interface, open the Components menu and select Segments. Click Add to open the Segment Builder and create a new segment. First, ensure you’ve selected the appropriate data view.

Next, give your segment a meaningful title, followed by a brief description. Add search tags to make it easier to find later. Now, let’s define the segment. Set it to evaluate at the person level, so it captures behavior across multiple sessions. Following our example, search for online orders in the Components panel and drag it onto the canvas. Since we want to target those who place two or more orders, change the operator to greater than or equal to and set the value to 2. We also want to specify the date range.

Let’s use the last 90 days.

OK, now we have a simple, clear segment. Let’s turn it into an audience. Click Create an audience from this segment to open the Audience Builder.

Make sure you’re using the correct data view. Give the audience a descriptive name. Then, add tags to help organize and locate it later. Next, specify how often your audience’s membership should be re-evaluated. One-time audience is evaluated only once and doesn’t refresh. This is useful for one-off campaigns. If you choose this option, you’ll also need to define one-time date range for this audience. The remaining Refresh frequency options let you define how often the audience will be republished. You can choose between every four hours, daily, weekly, or monthly. If you choose a reoccurring option, you’ll also need to define the Refresh lookback window and expiration date. The Refresh lookback window is the number of lookback days from the day the audience is evaluated.

You can select a predefined number or set up a custom time, up to 90 days. The expiration date is when the audience stops refreshing. The default is one year from the creation date, but you can customize it. Expiring audiences are treated like expiring scheduled reports. Your organization’s administrator will get an email one month before expiration. Audience refreshes are limited. Depending on your CJA Entitlement, you can have between 75 and 150 audience refreshes. Segments are the main input to the audience. You’ll see your segment automatically pre-populated here. You can add up to 20 segments to a single audience.

Finally, the Data Preview panel on the right shows you the details about your audience, including the total amount of people, estimated audience return, preview metrics, and so on. The total number of people is an estimate and can vary due to streaming data and identity behaviors. Once your audience is ready, click Publish. Publication takes a few minutes. After that, your audience becomes available in Adobe Experience Platform. To find it, go to the Experience Platform interface and open Audiences under the Customer section. In the Browse tab, filter by origin, selecting Customer Journey Analytics.

The audience in Experience Platform has the same name and description as in CJA, but the name includes the CJA Audience ID to ensure it’s unique. You can now use this audience in other Experience Platform applications, like Journey Optimizer, or export it to third-party applications through Experience Platform destinations. If you update the name or description of your audience in CJA, those changes will be reflected in Experience Platform as well.

If you delete your audience in Customer Journey Analytics, it will no longer appear in the Experience Platform interface. However, the profiles associated with this audience won’t be deleted. They’ll remain available until the profile membership of the audience expires. The profile membership expires after 420 days for one-time audiences, and after 16 days for recurring audiences. You should now know how to create and publish an audience from Customer Journey Analytics to real-time customer profile in Adobe Experience Platform. Thanks for watching.
