In this video, you will learn:

  • What to look at when monitoring project work
  • What your role is as a project manager
Transcript
Your project is created and planned and you’ve taken it live. Work is in progress. As the project manager, what’s the next step? To manage the project. When managing a project ultimately, you’re monitoring three things; the people, the time, and the work. Most likely, you’re not going to create a project and then just turn things loose and hope everything works out. After all, your name is in that Project Owner field. But ideally, you’re not going to micromanage every step of that project either. Your main job as the project manager is to drive the project towards successful completion. You can do that by monitoring the project and making sure work is trending in the right direction.
Among other things you’ll want to ensure work is being completed on time, anticipate problems and risks, communicate with your stakeholders, and of course, celebrate the wins along the way.
There’s no one size fits all when it comes to managing a project. Your organization will have its own suggestions and guidelines but each project has its own goal, timeline, and management needs.
So you should manage your projects in a way that will benefit your project, your team, and your organization.
Workfront has more than 3000 customers who have managed more than 2.5 million projects in Workfront. Workfront didn’t manage those projects but Workfront was there to help.

Manage a project - review

With each project you manage, you’ll settle into a routine of when to review projects and what you want to review each time. Staying on top of your projects and driving them to success is what being a project manager is all about.

Every project manager handles their projects a bit differently. And every team, department, or organization may have different project requirements and needs.

But no matter how you manage a project, you’ll want to:

  • Ensure work is being completed on time.
  • Anticipate problems and risks.
  • Communicate with your stakeholders.
  • Celebrate the wins along the way.

Ultimately, your main job is to drive the project toward successful completion. Workfront can help you monitor the work being done through the project timeline; filters, views, and groupings; updates; reports … and more.
