Step 3: Build an Audience
Now that you have unified customer profiles, you can group them into meaningful audiences (or segments). An audience is a subset of your profiles that meets a specific set of criteria, allowing you to target groups of customers with relevant messages.
In this step, you will use the Segment Builder to create an audience of all customers who are in the "Gold"
loyalty tier.
Create a “Gold Tier Members” Audience
- Navigate to Customer > Audiences from the left-hand navigation.
- Select Create audience in the top-right corner to open the Segment Builder interface.
Using the Segment Builder
The Segment Builder canvas is where you define the rules for your audience.
- On the left-hand side, you will see a list of available Fields, which includes all the profile attributes from your schemas.
- Under the Attributes folder, find the
Luma Loyalty Details
object you created. - Drag the
loyaltyTier
attribute from the list and drop it onto the rule builder canvas in the center of the screen.
- A rule builder interface will appear. The default condition is:
loyaltyTier equals
- In the text box, type:
Gold
Estimate the Audience Size
- Observe the Estimated audience size panel on the right.
- After a few moments, it will update to show an estimate of how many profiles match your criteria.
- Based on your sample data, this should show:
“3 profiles”
This real-time feedback is invaluable for validating your audience logic.
Configure Audience Properties
In the Audience properties panel on the right, enter the following details:
- Name:
Luma Gold Tier Members
- Description:
All customers in the Gold loyalty tier.
Select Save in the top-right corner.
You have now successfully created your first audience.
The system will automatically evaluate it, and its membership will update as new data is ingested.
