If you have a very large number of duplicates that keep generating no matter what you do, don’t have the time, or don’t want to do any type of manual manipulation, and have the budget for the service, you might want to pursue a more advanced and more automated option. Using an i-PASS tool to automatically find and merge these records is the way to go. This option is outside of Marketo Engage and requires that third-party tool or subscription. And odds are, if you are using a non-standard CRM integration, or have multiple CRMs, or multiple Marketo instances, or are an enterprise entity, you most likely already have this type of tool already. You are essentially going to automate that bulk upload process from the Excel side of things. This is the closest that you will be to setting up your personalized API instance without needing to know or host any type of code yourself. Please note, if your instance is natively connected to either Microsoft Dynamics or Salesforce, you will need to handle the duplicates in the CRM. Or the duplicates will continue to show back up in Marketo Engage even if you deleted the record in Marketo Engage, because the CRM is the source of truth. You can give Marketo Engage the ability to delete from the CRM, but I do not recommend that. As the CRM is the source of truth, best practice is to manage the data in the CRM. In the following section, I will walk you through how to use iPass tools to automate the process of managing purposeful duplicates. There are many options in the market, such as Zapier, Vertify, Mercado. For demonstration purposes, I will use Vertify as I have used that tool the most.
