AEM as a Cloud Service: Assets UI loads indefinitely
When you access an asset folder in AEM as a Cloud Service, you may see the Assets UI loading screen persist indefinitely. This typically happens when the folder contains assets with an extensive version history and you have the Version column enabled in the list view. Not everyone who accesses the same folder runs into this.
Description description
Environment
- Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service (all versions)
Symptoms
- You see a persistent loading screen in the Assets UI when you access certain asset folders.
- Others with access to the same folder don’t experience this.
Cause
When the Version column is enabled in the folder’s list view, the Assets UI attempts to retrieve version history metadata for every asset in the folder. If the version history is large, the request can time out or return an error, which causes the UI to load indefinitely.
Resolution resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
- Open the Assets UI and navigate to the affected folder or collection.
- Switch to List view if you are not already in that mode.
- Click the column settings icon, usually near the upper-right area of the list.
- In the Configurable Columns dialog, clear the check box for Version.
- Click Confirm to save your changes.
- Refresh the page and verify that the Assets UI loads as expected.
To help prevent this issue, consider regularly purging old version histories from your asset folders to maintain optimal performance.
