Procedures disappear after setting document state to Draft and republishing in AEM Guides

This article explains how to troubleshoot procedures that disappear from the end-user experience in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Guides after their document state is set to Draft and the library DITA map is regenerated and republished. To fix this, verify that the procedure remains in the library DITA map, review the output-generation queue, clear affected jobs, regenerate and republish the map, and verify the published Approved version.

Description description

Environment

  • Adobe Experience Manager Guides (all versions)
  • Library DITA map publishing
  • Published output consumed through a live site

Symptoms

  • After a procedure is set to Draft and the library DITA map is republished, the procedure disappears from the Library Table of Contents (TOC) on the live site.
  • The procedure is excluded from search results.
  • Inbound content references to the procedure from other procedures are missing or removed from the end-user experience.

Cause

When a procedure’s document state is set to Draft and the library DITA map is regenerated and republished, conflicting or queued output-generation jobs affect the publishing process and remove the procedure from the published output.

Resolution resolution

Follow the steps below to resolve the issue:

  1. Verify that the affected procedure is still included in the library DITA map and has not been removed from the map structure.
  2. Check the output-generation queue for stuck or conflicting jobs related to the affected procedure or library DITA map.
  3. If you find queued or stalled output-generation jobs, clear them to prevent further publishing issues.
  4. Regenerate and republish the library DITA map.
  5. Confirm that the last Approved version of the procedure is visible to end users in the Table of Contents (TOC), search results, and inbound references.
  6. If the issue recurs, collect the paths of the affected procedures and DITA maps, capture logs or HAR files during reproduction, and provide the diagnostic information to Adobe Support.

Note: Remove authentication data, session information, customer-specific paths, and other sensitive content from logs or HAR files before sharing them.
