Fixing inflated active profile counts in Adobe Campaign Managed Cloud

An unexpected increase in active profile counts can occur in Adobe Campaign Managed Cloud when multiple target mappings share the same log schema. Reconfiguring each target mapping to use a unique log schema resolves this issue and ensures accurate profile counts.

Description description

Environment

Adobe Campaign Managed Cloud, v8

Issue/Symptoms

  • The active profile count increases abnormally, sometimes nearly doubling within a short period and continuing to rise each month.
  • The count shown in the nmsActiveContact table is significantly higher than expected based on unique recipient data or historical trends.

Resolution resolution

To resolve inflated active profile counts:

  1. Review all configured target mappings in your Adobe Campaign instance.
  2. Identify any target mappings that share the same log schema.
  3. Assign a unique log schema to each target mapping.
  4. Reconfigure mappings that reference the same log schema so each uses its own schema.
  5. Remove or disable any legacy or unused target mappings as appropriate.
  6. Confirm changes with stakeholders to avoid disrupting campaigns.
  7. Monitor the active profile count after changes for stabilization and accuracy.
  8. Verify that counts now align with expectations by comparing nmsRecipient and nmsActiveContact tables.

Additional Information:

  • Having multiple target mappings share a single log schema is not supported and leads to inflated counts due to improper aggregation.
  • Each profile should only be counted once per source ID within a single recipient table; using different tables or dimensions results in multiple counts for the same individual.
  • If further breakdown of active profiles is needed, querying the nmsActiveContact table provides detailed records contributing to the count.
  • Always consult internal teams before removing or modifying target mappings to prevent workflow disruptions.
