How to report on ‘Last Opened Date’ using Marketo

Description description

Your business may want to know when was the last time a lead opened up an email. While Marketo does not have an out-of-the-box ‘last open date’ field that you can use for this purpose, you can overcome this by following the steps outlined below.

Resolution resolution

  1. Create the new field “Last Open Date” (this should be a Datetime type field)
  2. Create a trigger smart campaign that triggers of ANY email open. The people in this campaign should be able to run through this campaign every time. This document explains how to edit the smart campaign settings to achieve this.
  3. In the flow step, add a ‘Data Value Change’ step with the new field as the Attribute.
  4. In the new value section, add the token {{system.dateTime}} - this will write the date/time of the last time the lead opened an email.

Disclaimer: For your previous opens, this will not reflect since there isn’t a way to override those historical data. But moving forward, future opens will have this new attribute.
