Change Marketo Sync User
Description description
I need to change the Marketo Sync user for our Salesforce Integration.
Resolution resolution
To make the change you’d want to follow our set up process, documentation below, for creating a dedicated sync user.
Step 2 of 3: Create a Salesforce User for Marketo (Enterprise/Unlimited)
Step 2 of 3: Create a Salesforce User for Marketo (Professional)
You’ll want it to have the same level of permissions as the current user that’s being used to not run into issues sync fields or objects that are already in sync. Otherwise, we recommend partnering with your Salesforce Admin and Marketing team to understand what permissions you’ll need/want to have.
Once the new user has been created in Salesforce, you’ll navigate into the Admin > Salesforce section of Marketo to disable the bidirectional sync.
After the sync has been disabled, you’ll need to obtain a Security Token for the newly created user you have for the integration by following this Salesforce KB article.
Now that the bidirectional sync has been disabled and you have the Security Token, you’ll update the existing user credentials by clicking the “Edit” button underneath the Admin> Salesforce section. Enter in the new user name, password, and Security Token, then hit save.
The system will authenticate with Salesforce using that new user and will begin to utilize the designated sync user going forward for the sync.
NOTE:
When looking to change your Marketo Sync User for your Salesforce integration, we recommend that your team utilize a dedicated integration user and not the same user account as someone already in the company. Creating a dedicated Salesforce account (e.g., marketo@yourcompany.com) allows your team to distinguish the changes made by Marketo versus other Salesforce users. It also allows your team to outline the specific permissions that this Sync User has, which may be different from other users within your company.
