AEP: Negative record counts in profile snapshot generation
You observe negative record counts in the profile snapshot bar graph within Adobe Experience Platform (AEP). This is due to how the system processes and displays daily changes in profile data.
Description description
Environment
Adobe Experience Platform (AEP)
Issue/Symptoms
You might notice negative values in the profile snapshot bar graph on certain days. This raises concerns about data accuracy and potential system errors.
Resolution resolution
This behavior is explained by the following processes:
-
The profile snapshot is updated daily by a chained export job that runs after segmentation jobs. It ingests a new batch of stitched profiles from the Unified Profile Service (UPS), replacing the previous day’s batch, which then becomes inactive.
-
The bar graph shows the difference in
outputRecordCountbetween two consecutive days. For example,- On May 15, the
outputRecordCountwas 36,627,371. - On May 16, the
outputRecordCountdropped to 36,558,670. - The difference (May 16th minus May 15th) results in a negative value:
36,558,670 - 36,627,371 = -68,701, indicating a drop in ingested records. - The same logic applies to other days, whether the count increases or decreases.
- On May 15, the
-
A negative value means the record count decreased from the previous day. A positive value means it increased.
-
This calculation method accurately reflects daily changes in ingested records. Negative values don’t indicate any issues with data ingestion or deletion.
