Resolving profile update failures in Adobe Journey Optimizer

Specific field values do not seem to update properly after running through an Update Profile node in a journey. Commonly in such issues, profile fields added by update profile nodes may disappear or seem to revert back to the previous state before update profile. To fix this, check for any conflicting rules or conditions, permissions settings, use of unique dataset for update profile activity, and ensure no other ingestion is happening to it.

Issue/Symptoms

Profile attributes seem to disappear after some time after an Update Profile action is performed in a journey.

Resolution resolution

  1. Ensure there are no conflicting rules or conditions that might prevent the update from occurring in the journey.
  2. Check for any system-wide settings or permissions that could affect profile updates across sandboxes.
  3. Use a unique dataset for update profile activity that is not used for ingestion other than for update profile activities. Refer to Dataset Selection under Update Profile in the Journey Optimizer Guide.
  4. Ensure no other ingestion is happening to the same dataset used in your update profile activity. Otherwise, data will be re-written by the other ingestion. Review your dataset in (Adobe Experience Platform (AEP) to see the frequency of updates visually.
