Semrush Suggestions
Semrush Suggestions are prompt recommendations in Prompt Strategy that turn Semrush’s AI-visibility data into a curated set of topics worth tracking - personalized to your brand and its competitors, and organized by the type of opportunity each one represents.
Semrush analyzes how brands appear in AI-generated answers across ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overview, and Google AI Mode. Semrush Suggestions use that data to surface the topics where your brand can most improve - or defend - its visibility, so you don’t have to guess which prompts to add to your monitoring.
You’ll find Semrush Suggestions in Prompt Strategy. Filter the suggestion queue by source to see only Semrush recommendations; each Semrush card is marked with a Semrush badge. From there, you review the topics on each suggestion and add the ones you want to your Prompt Library.

Suggestion categories suggestion-categories
Every Semrush suggestion belongs to one of five categories, based on the kind of opportunity it represents. The category is shown at the top of each card.
How to read a suggestion how-to-read-a-suggestion
Each Semrush suggestion is shown as a card. From top to bottom, a card includes:
- A Semrush badge and the category (one of the five above).
- A headline summarizing the opportunity.
- A short rationale explaining why the topics were suggested and what they represent.
- A table of topics you can review and select.
The topics table always includes:
- Topic - the subject the prompts are about.
- Market - the country or region the topic applies to.
- Volume - how much search interest the topic has.
The final column depends on the category:
- For most categories, a Mentions by brand column shows how many times each brand - yours and your competitors’ - is mentioned in AI answers for that topic, so you can see where you stand. Your brand is listed first.
- For AI Engine Gaps, the table instead shows your brand’s rank on each AI engine (ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Overview, and AI Mode) for that topic - a position such as “#3”, or “Missing” when your brand doesn’t appear. This makes it easy to spot the engines where you’re absent.
Tracking suggestions tracking-suggestions
When a suggestion looks relevant, add its topics to the prompts you actively monitor:
-
On a card, select the topics you want - or leave none selected to include them all.
-
Choose Track (“Track all”, or “Track [n] topics” once you’ve made a selection).
-
In the dialog that opens:
- Under Include prompts observed on, choose which AI engines’ prompts to add (ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overview).
- Review the Detected queries from Semrush - the real user prompts Semrush observed for the selected topics and engines.
- Choose the Category in your library to file the prompts under.
-
Confirm with Add prompts. The prompts are added to your Prompt Library.
To remove a suggestion you don’t want, choose Dismiss - the card leaves the queue.
Newly added prompts need to be processed before they begin contributing to Brand Presence; see the Prompt Library documentation for details.
