Create for Google Ads negative placements

Google Ads accounts only

You can create negative placements for a Google Ads ad group in a campaign that targets the display network. Negative placements are sites in the display network that don’t trigger ads.

NOTE
You can also create and edit negative placements in the ad group settings and campaign settings.
TIP
To create many negative placements at once, use campaign bulksheets.
  1. In the main menu, click Search > Campaigns > Campaigns. In the submenus, click Live > Placements > Negatives.

  2. In the toolbar above the data table, click Create , and then click Campaign to create campaign-level negative placements or Ad Group to create ad group-level negative placements.

  3. Select the ad network, the account, the campaign, and (when relevant) the ad group, and then click Continue.

  4. Enter the negative website URLs.

To specify multiple strings, separate them with commas or enter them on separate lines. Valid formats include:

    • A website: Enter a valid URL, such as www.example.com. See the allowed formats in the “How to add your exclusion URLs” at https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/2454012.

    • A topic, category, or document vertical. See Google Ads guidelines and a list of all verticals. Example: category::Industries > Energy & Utilities > Oil & Gas.
