Manage Bid Multipliers for Placements

You can create and manage bid multipliers, by which an algorithmically computed bid is multiplied to increase or decrease the bid, for your existing placement targets of eligible target types. You can either manually edit bid multiplier values for one placement or upload a spreadsheet with values for one or more placements.

By default, the bid multiplier for a target is 1.00, which means that the bid isn’t adjusted for that target. Values can range from 0.10 to 10.00. For example, a bid multiplier of 0.5 decreases a USD 6 bid to USD 3 (0.5 x 6). When an auction qualifies for multiple bid modifiers, all of the applicable bid multipliers are multiplied. For example, if California has a bid multiplier of 2 and San Francisco has a bid multiplier of 3, then the final bid multiplier for ads that run in San Francisco is 6.

NOTE
Bid multipliers never increase the bid to more than the maximum bid.

You can set bid multipliers (with values other than 1.00) for a limited number of targets.

This feature works with your existing placement targets. To change the selected targets for your placements, see “Edit Placements.”

Manage the Bid Multipliers for a Single Placement

You can either manually edit values or upload a spreadsheet for a single placement.

  1. In the main menu, click Campaigns.

  2. Click the name of the campaign.

  3. In the submenu, click Placements.

  4. Next to the placement name, click > Bid Multiplier.

  5. Adjust the bid multipliers for eligible targets:

    • To manually adjust the bid multiplier values, move to each target-specific tab (Geo, Inventory, Sites, Audience, and Brand Safety) and edit the existing values for the placement targets.

Most target categories list sub-categories on the left. Click a sub-category to manage bid multipliers for that sub-category, as applicable.

    • To upload a CSV file with bid multiplier values to overwrite all existing values:

      1. Click CSV File Edit in the upper right.

      2. Either a) click Download Template and edit the file or b) edit a previously downloaded template. Save the edited file to your device or network.

Downloaded spreadsheets include one sheet for each target type (such as Country, Sources, and Site Category). Only existing bid multipliers with values < 1.0 or > 1.0 are included.

        • To add a bid multiplier for an existing target, enter the target using the same syntax visible in the user interface and the corresponding bid multiplier value.

        • To remove a bid modifier, set the bid multiplier value to 1.0 or delete all information for the row.

      3. Click Next to move to the Upload File section and either a) drag and drop the edited file into the box or b) click inside the box to select the file from your device or network.

      4. Verify the uploaded data in the Review & Submit section, and then click Save.

Upload Bid Multipliers for One or More Placements

Upload a spreadsheet to apply the same values to all selected placements.

  1. In the main menu, click Campaigns.

  2. Click the name of the campaign.

  3. In the submenu, click Placements.

  4. Select the check box next to each placement whose bid multipliers you want to manage.

  5. In the bulk actions toolbar, click > Upload Bid Multiplier Excel Sheet.

  6. Upload a CSV file with bid multiplier values to overwrite all existing values for all selected placements.

Maximum Number of Bid Multipliers by Target Type bid-multiplier-limits-by-target

You can set bid multipliers (with values other than 1.00) for a limited number of targets. For example, you can set bid multipliers for up to 20 country targets. The maximum number of targets for each target type that can have bid multipliers are listed below.
