Create email reminders
Before setting up an email reminder rule, you must first set up a cart price rule to define the promotion that is being offered. Rule conditions that trigger an email reminder can be based on cart properties, wishlist properties, or both.
-
On the Admin sidebar, go to Marketing > Communications > Email Reminder Rules.
-
In the upper-right corner, click Add New Rule.
-
Complete the Rule Information, as follows:
{width="700" modal="regular"}
-
Enter a Rule Name to identify the rule internally.
-
Enter a brief Description of the rule.
-
To choose the Cart Price Rule promotion that this reminder is to advertise, click Select Ruleā¦, and select the rule.
{width="600" modal="regular"}
-
If you want the rule to go into effect immediately, set Status to
Active. -
To set up a date range for the rule to be active, enter the From and To dates.
You can also choose the date from the Calendar (
).
-
To send the reminder more than once, enter the number of days before the next email blast in the Repeat Schedule field.
-
-
In the panel on the left, choose Conditions.
At least one condition must be defined for the rule. The process is similar to building a catalog price rule.
{width="600" modal="regular"}
Click Add (
) to display the list of options and then choose one of the following conditions:
- Wish List
- Shopping Cart
note note NOTE If a customer has more than one matched abandoned cart, wish list, or combination of both, the email reminder is triggered only once for that customer. To trigger the same email reminder again, use the Repeat Schedule field to set the number of days between emails. The same email reminder is not retriggered for the same customer for new abandoned carts and wish lists after the Repeat Schedule period is over. Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service has an experimental feature that allows a single rule to be applied multiple times, see Rule repeatability for more information. Complete the condition to describe the scenario that triggers the email reminder.
{width="600" modal="regular"}
-
In the panel on the left, choose Emails and Labels.
{width="600" modal="regular"}
-
In the Email Templates section, choose the email template to be used for each website and store view in your store hierarchy.
If you do not want to send the reminder email to customers of a store view, leave the value
Not Selected. -
In the Default Titles and Description section, do the following:
-
Enter the Rule Title for All Store Views.
note note NOTE This value can be incorporated into email templates by using the promotion_namevariable. -
Enter the Rule Description for All Store Views.
{width="500" modal="regular"}
-
In the Titles and Descriptions Per Store View section, enter the Rule Title and Description for the Default Store View. For multiple store views, enter the appropriate title and description for each.
note note NOTE The description can be incorporated into email templates by using the promotion_description variable. {width="500" modal="regular"}

[SaaS only]{class="badge positive" title="Applies to Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service and Adobe Commerce Optimizer projects only (Adobe-managed SaaS infrastructure)."} If you are using Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service, you can enable rule repeatability by selecting the Rule Repeatability checkbox.
note important IMPORTANT The rule repeatability option is an experimental feature that is disabled by default. For details on enabling the option, see Rule repeatability. -
When complete, click Save.
Rule repeatability
Rule repeatability allows you to reuse a single rule for multiple email reminders. This is useful when you want the rule to apply to the same customer at a later time. Without rule repeatability, the rule no longer applies after a customer clears their cart or completes a purchase.
Selecting the Rule Repeatability checkbox on the General Information tab allows the rule to apply to users again after the original rule trigger no longer applies.
Consider the following example:
You have an abandoned cart rule that is triggered after 1 day and retriggers 3 and 5 days later. A user abandons a cart and 1 day later, they receive an abandoned cart email reminder. After 2 days, the user decides to complete their purchase. The cart is no longer abandoned. 10 days later, the user abandons a new cart with different items.
- If Rule Repeatability is enabled, the user receives a new abandoned cart email reminder.
- If Rule Repeatability is disabled, the user does not receive any additional abandoned cart email reminders.
