Use cases
Now it’s time for some use cases for the Adobe Analytics Dashboards app and Mobile Scorecards to drive value for your business and engage your colleagues at all levels.
Use case one
Stay informed about sudden peaks in demand and make prompt decisions
External events, government announcements, sports events, or key retail events may drive a sudden peak in traffic to your website, and often these can happen outside of regular business hours.
Example: Your team has just reached the final of the Soccer world cup, against all odds! You and a couple of thousands of your closest supporter friends decide there is no way you cannot attend the final which is in Spain, and it is next weekend. Thousands flock to all airline and accommodation websites to support their home country.
Fixtures in sport matches on the weekends can drive a sudden surge in demand for travel on the websites for accommodation or airlines to specific destinations hosting the finals. These external factors drive a sudden increase in demand as fans rush to secure travel to the final game.
This is just one example; can you think about any other examples of external factors that can affect the demand for your business?
Perhaps there have been past announcements or features in the media that drove increased demand and peaks in traffic to parts of your website.
Plan ahead
Share your Mobile Scorecards and encourage your teams to install the Adobe Analytics Dashboards app, so that they can respond to demand changes promptly. It is key to develop collaboration between different team members who can respond to a sudden change in demand.
Ensure that your Marketing, Public Relations, and relevant operational tams are familiar with using the analytics app, so that they are in the best position to support the business during periods of sudden increases in traffic.
Implement a contingency plan, so that your colleagues feel empowered with Adobe Analytics Dashboards to make data-informed decisions.
Having insights at your fingertips at any time of the day or week is one of my favorite features of the Adobe Analytics Dashboards app.
Use case two
Put your busy Execs in the driving seat, by providing them with the signals to monitor the health of the business on the go.
Easily create an Executive-level dashboard for the key performance indicators that matter most to your business.
Decide on Key Performance Indicators (KPI)
It is fundamental to speak to your Execs and colleagues to understand their business goals and needs.
Have these goals and needs as the foundations to develop KPI’s which matter most to your Execs.
Try to only focus on a handful of KPIs, because the ‘K’ in KPI does not refer to a thousand, suggest keeping it to maximum 6 x KPIs. This will not only display better on the Analytics app screen but will also focus on what matters most at a strategic level.
Ensure your KPIs are clear
Take your Mobile Scorecard to the next level and adjust the titles for your metrics to explain the business definition of your KPIs.
To amend the Titles of a KPI
1. Drag and drop a KPI into your scorecard.
2. Select the KPI on the top right you will be able to adjust the Tile Properties.
3. Then change the Title of the Tile to help your Execs understand what each title refers and provide more context to and change it to a more business friendly term.
If the metrics have good titles already then just leave Title area empty, as it will default to the metric name.
Provide key filters to compare and slice the KPIs
Date Ranges: Decide those key date ranges that matter to your business and your exec reporting cycles for example Quarters maybe or even Holiday events.
1. Drag and drop a date range onto the date filter.
2. Then select a comparison date range using the drop-down menu.
Let us take them even further!
Your Execs may ask more questions, for example, what is driving the performance of a specific KPI or Why a specific KPI is under performing?
Anticipate these follow up questions and have these answers available at their fingertips by adding dimension or segment filters into their Mobile Scorecard.
The Data Dictionary can be a good starting point to see what popular dimensions are often used alongside your KPIs and these dimensions can become filters drill into the KPIs and answer questions.
1. Drag and drop your KPIs into the tiles on the Mobile Scorecard.
2. Now select a specific KPI to drill into further to understand what may have been affecting the performance.
3. Drop the required dimensions where highlighted and this will create a drop-down for your app users to select and drill into the data.
Take a screenshot of the Mobile Scorecard and share this in a presentation or emails to get your Execs familiar with the interface design and entice them download the app and explore the data further.
Remember to share your Mobile Scorecards with your Executives and check out this handy Guide on Experience League to help your Execs get started with downloading and using the Mobile Scorecards.
Use case three
Navigate key customer journeys, by engaging and empowering your digital product teams.
If the company you work for has customer facing a mobile app, another excellent feature of the Mobile Scorecard is that this is a great tool to empower your product teams to drive decisions.
Communicate key insights and product goals for the app in a language that relates to your product teams. The Mobile Scorecard has a great data story telling feature where you can add new screens and guide your teams through key customer journey steps.
As per the example below, we have three key steps in our customer journey from viewing a product to making an order.
Step 1: Product Views > Step 2: Cart Additions >: Step 3: Orders
1. Drag and drop a KPI onto the canvas.
2. Select a specific KPI tile, a new slide will appear showing details of the specified KPI.
3. To add another slide, select the little plus icon on the right of the slide.
4. Now a blank slide will appear, and you can add new components to this slide to indicate the next stage in a journey.
5. If a journey has multiple steps, please add a new slide with different components for each stage.
Excellent features to design impactful Mobile Scorecards
Discover your components
Like a workspace project, the left-handrail of the Mobile Scorecard will help you explore your data and discover all the components in your selected report suite, here you will see your dimensions, metrics, and segments.
You can also use the Adobe Data Dictionary in the left-hand rail to learn more about the components and even understand what components are frequently used together with your metrics.
These frequently used components could be applied as dimension or segment filters for your KPIs.
Design your data stories with key Visualizations
There are a couple of carefully selected visualizations available that are optimal for use on mobile devices, leverage these to tell data stories.
Please find an overview of these Visualizations:
A. KPI tile
i. My favourite visualization for the Mobile Scorecard is the KPI tile, this visualization provides information in a clean format that is easy to digest as shown below:
ii. The KPI is shown as a clear summary number, there is also a % change compared to the comparison date range applied at the top of the screen to provides more context.
iii. Then to add further context below this summary number, there is a trend line comparing to the comparison date to see how this number has changed over time.
B. Donut
i. Donut visualizations are great for comparing parts of a whole, limit the number of dimension items shown in a donut and suggest keeping this to a minimum.
ii. This is an excellent visualization to apply when comparing the proportions of two-dimension items.
C. Horizontal Bar
i. When comparing multiple dimension items, it may also be helpful to use the horizontal bar visualization.
ii. This is a great visualization when comparing dimension items with longer titles like page names as it is easier to read horizontal labels.
D. Line
i. To show how a KPI has changed over time apply a line visualization.
ii. This is my favourite visualization to spot trends and progress over time.
E. Table and Text
i. There are also two new Visualizations Table and Text.
ii. These visualizations can help supply additional context and highlight key information in your Mobile Scorecard.
Preview your Mobile Scorecard
Preview what your Mobile Scorecard will look like on different mobile phone type, by selecting the Preview button on the top right.
This is an excellent feature to test can your scorecard design on different mobile phone types and interact with the scorecard before sharing it with your users.
