I’ve worked with Adobe Commerce for over a decade, primarily on integrations—the APIs Commerce exposes and the systems that depend on them: ERPs, CRMs, PIMs, and downstream fulfillment platforms. While front‑end experiences often get the spotlight, my work has largely on the backend—where systems exchange data, assumptions collide, and the real business risk sits.

This is not a general testing or automation overview.
This is a practical, focused story about how we used native Adobe Commerce integration test cases to automate inbound and outbound ERP validation—and fundamentally changed how our QA team operated.

The real problem: Not just bugs, but lack of confidence

We were building a productized integration layer that supported multiple ERP systems. Clients would connect their ERP by installing a corresponding integration package and expect it to “just work.”

To validate a single customer creation scenario, the process typically involved:

  1. Logging into the ERP system and preparing the required sync configuration

  2. Creating a customer record (often 5–10 minutes due to validations)

  3. Manually triggering the ERP outbound sync, if not automated

  4. Monitoring the ERP or middleware queue

  5. Verifying message arrival in Magento’s message queue

  6. Manually processing the queue if consumers were not automated

  7. Comparing ERP and Magento customer data field by field

Even when everything functioned correctly, this flow took 10–15 minutes for a single test case.

Why this became a bottleneck

This was only one variation.

In reality, customer sync had 10+ permutations, including:
