How to Best Structure Your Organization One aspect that can be difficult for a company is to understand how to best structure your organization relative to Workfront’s architecture. Who has access to what, and how users are organized. You can start to simplify that process within Workfront companies. How to Make a Business with Workfront A company is a commercial business and is the largest organizational unit within Workfront.

For instance, the company you work for would be set up as a Workfront company.

By default, your company is listed as the primary company since it’s your instance of Workfront. However, a company can also represent an external customer you work with. For example, you’ve been contracted to create a new website for Appetite, Inc. As you build it out, employees of Appetite need to review it and communicate any changes that need to be made. Instead of asking for, and receiving comments or approvals from them via email, you add three or four of their decision makers as users in Workfront to track comments and approval cycles directly in Workfront. By creating Appetite, Inc. as a company in your instance of Workfront, not only can you track users outside your organization, but you can allow them to only see information relevant to them. This is similar to an agency model. Other examples could include an internal marketing team that works with certain vendors to accomplish work. These vendor subsidiaries or companies could be added to your Workfront instance. This object also allows security and control.

To create Appetite as a company in Workfront, you go to the Setup area, select Companies, click the New Company button, enter the company name, and members.

Once done, click the Create Company button.

With the company now created, you can designate which projects are specifically for that company, create reports focused on work being done for Appetite, and associate their users with their company, and establish the amount of access they have to your instance of Workfront.
