As an operational system of record, Workfront is designed to capture and organize information about the work you’re doing. It tracks key details using native features like “Planned Start Date” and “Priority”, as well as custom built fields tailored to your organization’s needs. To ensure your users have easy access to the information they need, you can customize the “Project Details” page through layout templates.

By default, the “Project Details” page looks something like this.

To change what appears, Start by navigating to the “Layout Templates” section under the “Interface” area In the “Setup” area. You can create a new layout template or, as in this case, edit an existing one.

Let’s say the marketing content team needs to prioritize specific custom forms that capture critical data. We’ll customize the layout so that these forms are the first thing seen when a member of the content team opens the Project Details area. First, make sure your “Project” is selected in the “Customize what users see” dropdown menu.

In the “Details” section you’ll see “Overview”, “Custom Forms”, and “Finance”.

Since you want “Custom Forms” to be the first section visible, hover your mouse over the handle next to “Custom Forms”.

Then click and drag the “Custom Forms” section to the top. Now, unlike the “Overview” and “Finance” sections, you’ll notice there are no fields listed under “Custom Forms”. That’s because each custom form is unique with its own set of fields. These fields will only appear in the “Project Details” area once a specific custom form has been added to the project.

However, once the layout is saved, the system knows to put that form and those fields at the top.

Since custom forms already include the fields your team needs, you might not want to fill the page with default Workfront fields that aren’t relevant to your team. You can remove any default fields by checking the box next to each field you’d like to remove.

Or, if you want to remove them all, click the checkbox next to “Select All” to deselect all the fields at once. This makes it easier for users to focus on the data that matters to them, and the work being done when looking at the “Project Details” area.

Once you’re done making changes, click “Save”.

Customizing the “Project Details” page through a layout template ensures your users see the information they need, right when they need it. Creating a more focused and efficient workspace for your teams.
