Download assets in AEM Assets Content Hub
Learn how to navigate, search, and download assets in Adobe Experience Manager Assets Content Hub.
In this video, we’ll show you how to search for and download assets and asset renditions in Adobe Experience Manager Assets Content Hub.
Content Hub offers an intuitive user interface where you can easily find, share, download, and take additional actions on assets that have been approved in Adobe Experience Manager Assets and uploaded to the Content Hub portal.
To view and search for these assets, open the Content Hub interface and go to the All Assets tab. As you can see, we have quite a few assets here. Scrolling through them manually can be time consuming. So let’s use Content Hub searching capabilities to quickly narrow down the results.
Start by clicking the search bar at the top of the page. Content Hub saves your search history. So, when you click into the search box without typing, you’ll see a list of your previous searches. To remove a keyword or term from this list, simply click the delete icon. Keep in mind your search history is maintained locally, meaning if you clear your web browser’s local storage or switch browsers, your search history won’t carry over. For this example, let’s say you’re looking for an asset for one of the weekend summer hiking adventures. Use summer as your search keyword. As you begin typing, Content Hub offers autocomplete suggestions and dynamically updates the results to match your query. Content Hub uses a variety of search techniques. It compares your query against an asset’s title, description, and other metadata properties, including smart tags. It also surfaces related results based on contextual relevance. For instance, searching for summer returns assets tagged with outdoor, vacation, or beach. Behind the scenes, a smart search algorithm ranks results by relevance. Recently modified and frequently used assets appear higher in the list.
To refine your results further, use the filters panel on the left.
Filters are based on asset metadata. You can filter by campaigns, region, keywords, and more, depending on how your organization’s administrator has configured the available filters. For more on customizing the interface, check out our video on configuring Content Hub. Let’s make your search more specific using the Keywords filter.
The Show All option within filters reveals all available facets along with asset counts. You can also search within a filter to find specific facets more efficiently. You can select multiple options within a filter. Once you’ve made your selections, click Apply.
When you select multiple options within the same filter, Content Hub shows assets that match any of those options.
Now let’s say you also want to find images modified on a specific date. Scroll down to the last modified filter and choose your desired start date. When you apply multiple options across different filters, Content Hub displays only the assets that match all selected criteria, which helps you faster zero in on exactly what you need.
Now that you’ve found the assets you want, you can download them if your administrator has enabled asset downloads in the Content Hub configuration’s interface. To download a single asset, click the download icon on the asset card.
Alternatively, select the asset or multiple assets and click Download in the action bar at the top. This will immediately begin downloading the assets in their original rendition.
If your administrator has also enabled renditions in the Content Hub configuration’s interface, you’ll be able to choose additional renditions available for each asset. In this case, clicking the download action won’t start the download right away. Instead, it will open a dialog where you can select which renditions you want to download.
Asset renditions are different representations of the asset’s original file tailored for different use cases. They can include thumbnails, web, or mobile optimized versions, watermarked files, or dynamic elements in Smart Crops.
Static renditions are pre-created versions of an asset’s original file using Experience Manager assets processing profiles, typically generated during asset upload. They are optimized for specific uses in platforms like web thumbnails, responsive mobile formats, or high-resolution files for printing. In the Assets view, you can see the default static renditions for each asset. You can also upload custom static renditions. Content Hub only displays custom static renditions, so these defaults won’t appear on the portal.
If your organization has access to dynamic media with open API capabilities, you can also download dynamic renditions and Smart Crops. These renditions are only available for image assets. Dynamic renditions are real-time, customized versions of your assets generated on request. They let you resize or crop images to fit different screen sizes or aspect ratios, helping you deliver personalized and optimized experiences.
Smart Crop uses AI to identify the most important part of an image and intelligently place the crop around it, ensuring your visuals look great across all screens.
To learn more about dynamic media and Smart Crop, check out Adobe Experience Manager documentation. You can click Select All to choose all available renditions for all selected assets.
Choose static renditions or dynamic renditions to select only those types across your selection.
Once you’ve made your selections, click Download. The download may take a few moments, but you can continue using Content Hub while it completes.
All selected renditions will be downloaded in a single zip file.
You should now know how to search for and download assets and asset renditions in Content Hub. We hope this will help you and your teams easily find and use the brand-approved assets you need. Thanks for watching!
