Create your first course

Courses in Experience Manager Guides can be designed to match different learning goals. While a regular learning course may include topics, quizzes, and summaries, you can also create courses that focus mainly on assessments. For instance, you might set up a course with only a quiz, or a quiz along with one overview topic to quickly check understanding. You can also build a structured path with a pre-assessment quiz, the main course content, and a final quiz. These options help you deliver targeted learning experiences while effectively measuring learner progress.

Before we dive into the step-by-step process, here’s a short walkthrough video that demonstrates how to create your first course and adding components to it.

Perform the following steps to create your first course:

  1. Navigate to the folder within which you want to create a course and select New > Course from the Options menu.

The New course dialog is displayed.

  2. In the  New course dialog, provide the following details:

    • A Template on which the course will be based.

      note note
      NOTE
You will view only those course templates that are configured by your Administrator.
    • A Title for the course.

    • The file name for the course. The file name is auto suggested based on the course Title. In case your Administrator has enabled automatic file names based on the UUID setting, then you will not view the File name field.

    • Path where you want to save the course. By default, the path of the currently selected folder in the repository is shown in the Path field.

  3. Select Create.
The course is created at the specified path based on the selected template. Also, the course opens in the Course manager for editing.
