Unlocking an AEM page locked by an inactive user
This article explains how to unlock a page in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) when it is locked by an inactive or removed account. To resolve the issue, unlock the page using an administrative account.
Description description
Environment
Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Author environment
Issue/Symptoms
- A page remains locked and cannot be edited because the account that locked it is inactive or has been removed.
- Standard users cannot unlock the page.
- The Unlock Page option is available only to users with administrative permissions.
Root cause
Pages locked by inactive or removed accounts remain locked until a user with sufficient administrative permissions manually removes the lock.
Resolution resolution
Follow the steps below to resolve the issue:
- Sign in to the AEM Author environment using an account with administrative permissions.
- Navigate to the locked page using the full page path, for example:
/editor.html/content/example-site/en/page.html - In the page editor, select Page Information in the upper-left corner.
- Select Unlock Page.
- If the Unlock Page option is not available, verify that the account has sufficient permissions and is typically a member of the administrators group.
- Verify the resolution by confirming that the page is unlocked and can be edited successfully by a standard user.
