Dynamic Media: Animated WebP processing failure and supported alternatives
Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Dynamic Media does not support animated WebP files as an input format. As a result, animated WebP assets fail to process and no Scene7 delivery URL is generated. To resolve the issue, use supported formats and delivery methods for animated and static content.
Description description
Environment
Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Dynamic Media (all versions)
Issue/Symptoms
- Uploading an animated WebP file to Dynamic Media results in a processing failure.
- No Scene7 delivery URL is generated for the asset.
- Animated WebP files are not supported as input in Dynamic Media.
Root cause
Animated WebP is not a supported input format in Dynamic Media, resulting in processing failures and the absence of delivery URLs.
Resolution resolution
Follow the steps below to resolve the issue:
- Confirm that animated WebP files are not supported as input formats in Dynamic Media. This is expected behavior.
- For animated content, convert the asset to MP4 and use Dynamic Media adaptive video delivery for optimal web performance.
- If an animated image is required, use the GIF format. Deliver GIFs using the
/is/content/URL path to preserve animation (do not use/is/image/). - For static images, upload JPEG or PNG files. Dynamic Media Smart Imaging can deliver optimized WebP or AVIF output for supported browsers.
- If the original animated WebP must be preserved, store and deliver it outside the Dynamic Media ingestion workflow.
