Remove ghost Dynamic Media renditions after account switch in AEM
This article explains how to resolve an issue in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) where unwanted Dynamic Media renditions or Smart Crop definitions continue to appear for assets after switching to a new Dynamic Media account, even though the configuration is no longer visible in the AEM Author interface.

Issue/Symptoms
- Dynamic Media rendition configurations or Smart Crop definitions are missing from the AEM Author UI after a Dynamic Media account switch.
- Unwanted renditions or Smart Crop options continue to appear for assets in Content Hub or when viewing asset details.
- The issue affects existing assets and folders but may not be reproducible for new uploads.
Cause
Switching the Dynamic Media account in AEM can leave behind stale Smart Crop or rendition metadata on assets or in Content Hub. As a result, ghost configurations may persist even after the original configuration is no longer visible in the AEM Author interface.
Resolution resolution
Follow the steps below to resolve the issue.
- Log in to AEM Author as an administrator.
- Navigate to Tools → Assets → Image Profiles.
- Identify the Image Profile assigned to the affected folder. To confirm the assigned profile, select the folder and check Properties → Image Processing.
- Open the assigned Image Profile.
- Remove all unwanted Smart Crop definitions or renditions that are no longer needed.
- Save the Image Profile.
- Reassign the updated Image Profile to the folder, or confirm it remains assigned after saving.
- In DAM, navigate to the affected folder, select it, and choose Reprocess Assets → Reprocess.
- After reprocessing completes, verify in Content Hub or the asset details view that the unwanted rendition options no longer appear for affected assets.
