AEM Guides: DITAMAP creation fails and topic titles display as GUIDs after migration
This article explains how to resolve issues in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Guides where DITAMAP creation fails, and topic titles appear as GUIDs after migration to Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service (AEMaaCS). To resolve the issue, restore reference mappings and reindex affected assets.
Description description
Environment
- Adobe Experience Manager (AEMaaCS) as a Cloud Service
- Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Guides
Issue/Symptoms
- Unable to create new DITAMAPs in the Guides UI after migration.
- Existing DITAMAPs display topic titles as GUID numbers rather than descriptive titles.
- Default map templates and map folder profiles are missing.
- References in topic properties do not display correctly.
- Application logs show errors such as javax.jcr.PathNotFoundException related to GUIDs in
/var/dxml/btree/uuid-references-v2.
Steps to reproduce
- Open affected folders in Assets and view the Map Dashboard.
- Attempt to create a new DITAMAP in the Guides UI.
- Observe topic titles and references in the Properties panel.
Root cause
Missing reference-mapping data causes these symptoms, typically because the /var/dxml directory was not fully migrated during the migration process.
Resolution resolution
Follow the steps below to resolve the issue.
- Validate that the
/var/dxmldirectory was fully migrated during the content migration process. Confirm that all reference-mapping data exists in the AEM as a Cloud Service Author environment. - If the
/var/dxmlmigration was incomplete, migrate the directory by using the appropriate migration tooling to transfer all reference data. - Reindex the affected assets in the AEM as a Cloud Service Author environment. Use the AEM Operations Dashboard or the appropriate index management tools to perform the reindexing process.
- Review AEM error logs for PathNotFoundException errors related to GUIDs and identify assets that report missing references.
- If asset modification dates are important for downstream integrations, avoid full asset reprocessing because it updates the
lastModifiedproperty. Instead, use targeted remediation for affected assets. - After completing the migration and reindexing activities, verify that DITAMAP creation succeeds, topic titles display correctly in the Guides UI, and references appear in the Properties panel for affected topics.
