Unpublished Experience Fragments remain available as offers in Adobe Target
This article explains why Experience Fragments that are unpublished in AEM Sites 6.5 continue to appear as offers in Adobe Target. To fix this, identify the corresponding Target offer, review its activity references, replace or remove those references, remove or archive the obsolete offer in Target, and then retire the source Experience Fragment in AEM.
Description description
Environment
- Adobe Experience Manager 6.5.24.0 production environment
- Adobe Target (all versions)
- Experience Fragment integration with Adobe Target
Issue/Symptoms
- Experience Fragments unpublished in AEM remain visible and selectable as offers in Adobe Target.
- The issue affects multiple Experience Fragments rather than a single fragment.
- The unpublish process previously worked as expected, but older Experience Fragments continue to appear in Target prompts and activities.
Cause
Unpublishing an Experience Fragment in AEM doesn’t automatically remove or deactivate the corresponding offer in Adobe Target. After an Experience Fragment is exported, it remains available as a Target offer until an administrator removes or replaces it. Target activities continue to reference older offers until those references are updated explicitly.
Resolution resolution
Follow the steps below to resolve the issue:
- Identify the Experience Fragment and its corresponding Target offer.
- Record the AEM Experience Fragment path and variation.
- Locate the corresponding offer name and ID in Adobe Target, and record the Target workspace where the offer resides.
- Review all Target activities and prompts for references to the offer.
- Confirm whether the offer remains required for reporting, testing, or rollback purposes.
- If an active activity references the offer, replace it with the current approved offer and save and activate the changes in Target as needed.
- After confirming that no active activity references the offer, remove or archive the obsolete offer using the Target offer-management method. Note: Don’t bulk-delete offers until all mappings and activity references are verified.
- After confirming that the offer is no longer required in Target, unpublish or delete the source Experience Fragment in AEM and retain the mapping and change details for audit and rollback purposes.
- Verify that the Experience Fragment no longer appears as an offer in Adobe Target and isn’t referenced by any active activity.
