AEM Assets crashes or shows repository upgrade message when scrolling large collections

This article describes how to resolve an issue in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Assets where scrolling through large asset collections causes the interface to crash or display a repository upgrade message by identifying and removing assets missing required properties.

Description description

Environment

Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Assets

Issue/Symptoms

  • Scrolling through a large asset collection in AEM Assets displays a repository upgrade message.
  • The collection screen goes blank or crash, especially after scrolling through many assets.
  • The issue occurs when additional assets, thumbnails, and metadata are loaded as you scroll further down the collection.

Cause

This issue is caused by one or more assets in the collection missing required properties, such as the type property. This prevents the collection from loading and rendering correctly when large numbers of assets are accessed.

Resolution resolution

To fix the issue, follow these steps:

  1. Open the affected asset collection in AEM Assets.
  2. Scroll through the collection until the crash or repository upgrade message occurs.
  3. Identify problematic assets by reviewing the collection for assets that don’t display as expected, such as missing thumbnails, metadata, or other irregularities.
  4. Compare asset properties and look for assets missing the type property or other required metadata.
  5. Remove any assets missing required properties from the collection.
  6. Reopen the collection and scroll through the assets to confirm that the crash and repository upgrade message no longer occur.
  7. If the issue persists, collect browser console logs and network traces during the crash and provide them to Adobe Support for further investigation.
