AEM Sites Console slowness when loading folders with many child pages

Symptoms
- Significant delays (over 30 seconds) occur when loading a site content tree folder with several hundred or more child pages in the Sites Console.
- Slowness is most noticeable during the initial request to open the folder.
- Folders with fewer child pages or lower environments (such as Dev or RDE) are typically not affected.
- After the initial load, subsequent loads are much faster (1–2 seconds) due to caching.
Cause
The Sites Console processes all child pages under the folder during the initial request, resulting in increased repository reads and server response times.
Resolution resolution
Follow the steps below to resolve the issue:
- Identify folders in your AEM Sites content tree that contain a large number of child pages and are experiencing slow load times in the Sites Console.
- Monitor Adobe Experience Manager product release notes for updates to the Sites Console and Foundation components. A fix has been implemented to optimize how child pages are processed during content tree rendering.
- Once the relevant Sites and Foundation releases containing the fix are available, apply these updates to your Stage and Production Author environments according to your organization’s change management procedures.
- After applying the updates, verify that the load times for affected folders have improved by opening the folder in the Sites Console and observing the response time. The initial load should be significantly faster, and subsequent loads should remain quick due to caching.
