Topic Type dropdown is empty after installation

This article describes how to resolve the issue where the Topic Type dropdown doesn’t display any values in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Guides after a fresh installation.

Description description

Environment

  • Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Guides
  • Production instance

Issue/Symptoms

After installing AEM Guides, the Topic Type (or Template) dropdown is empty when creating a new topic. In other environments, the dropdown lists templates such as Topic, Concept, Reference, Task, Troubleshooting, and Markdown. All topic templates are present under /content/dam/dita-templates/topics and are processed correctly. The issue typically occurs immediately after a fresh installation.

Resolution resolution

To fix the issue, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure that the Guides bundle or package versions on the production instance match those in your lower environments.
  2. Rebuild the client libraries (clientlibs) on the production instance.
  3. Perform a hard refresh in your browser to clear any cached scripts.
  4. Verify that the damAssetLucene search index is fully built and not in a reindexing state. If the index is not fully built, trigger a full reindex and allow it to complete before testing the dropdown again.
  5. After the index build completes, check if the Topic Type dropdown now displays the expected templates when creating a new topic.

If the issue persists after completing these steps, consider reinstalling the AEM Guides package on the production instance.
