Make CJA derived fields and calculated metrics show in BI tools

When you connect a BI tool such as Tableau or Power BI to Customer Journey Analytics (CJA) data views, derived fields and calculated metrics don’t appear as expected. This happens because BI tools identify components by their IDs instead of their display names, and calculated metrics stay hidden until you explicitly share them with the authenticated user. To fix this, search for components by their IDs and confirm that each calculated metric is shared with the correct technical account.

Issue/Symptoms

Derived fields and calculated metrics created in CJA don’t show up in BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI.

Resolution resolution

BI tools display components by their component ID rather than their display name, because each component ID is unique. Calculated metrics follow a similar rule and also require sharing before they appear. Work through the steps below:

  1. If you don’t see a derived field in your BI tool, search for it by its component ID rather than its display name.
  2. Search for calculated metrics by their external ID. A calculated metric appears only when you explicitly share it with the authenticated user.
  3. If you use non-expiring credentials, share the calculated metric with the technical account email associated with the technicalAccountName/technicalAccountId from your credentials.
  4. Ask a system admin to find the credential details under Users >  API Credentials. Because the technical ID and the technical account email use different formats, confirm you’re looking at the right credential by matching the technicalAccountName/technicalAccountId from your credentials with the Technical Id of the credential in Admin Console.
  5. After you confirm the credential, share the calculated metric with the technical account using the email, formatted xx-x-x-x-xx@techacct.adobe.com.
  6. Refresh the connection in your BI tool. The calculated metric should now appear, searchable by its external ID.
