Prevent duplicate Dynamic Media links for identical assets in AEM as a Cloud Service

If multiple DAM assets in different folders show the same Dynamic Media link, the assets are likely sharing a Dynamic Media company or a conflicting folder name. Assign each AEM environment its own dedicated Dynamic Media company to prevent and resolve the issue.

Description description

Environment

  • Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service (AEMaaCS) (all versions)
  • Dynamic Media integration

Symptoms

  • Multiple DAM assets in different folders display the same Dynamic Media URL in the Smart Crop rendition view.
  • Smart crop changes or deletions in one asset affect all others with the same Dynamic Media link.
  • No explicit error messages are logged, but unexpected asset linking and smart crop behavior are observed.

Cause

Dynamic Media uses a globally unique asset identifier that may be shared if identical assets are uploaded to different folders under certain configurations. This can happen if the top-level DAM folder name matches the Dynamic Media company name, or if multiple AEM environments share a single Dynamic Media company, leading to asset handle conflicts.

Resolution resolution

Follow these steps to resolve this issue:

  1. Review your Dynamic Media company mapping and ensure that each AEM environment is mapped to a dedicated Dynamic Media company.

  2. Verify the mapping in Cloud Manager or consult your AEM administrator for integration details.

  3. Confirm that the top-level DAM folder name does not match the name of your Dynamic Media company. If they match, consider renaming the folder or using a different structure to reduce the chance of duplicate Dynamic Media links.

  4. Avoid uploading identical assets to multiple folders in rapid succession, especially if your configuration matches the scenarios above.

  5. If duplicate Dynamic Media links are already present:

    • Search AEM Assets for the filename and identify any duplicate filenames across folders.
    • Search Dynamic Media for the base filename and check for duplicate or stale variants.
    • Remove or archive duplicate assets in Dynamic Media if they are not needed.
    • Reprocess or republish the corrected asset from AEM.
  6. After making these changes, upload the assets again and verify that each asset in a different folder receives a unique Dynamic Media link and independent smart crop configuration.

  7. Monitor the AEM as a Cloud Service release notes for updates addressing this issue.

  8. After the relevant release, retest your upload scenario to confirm the issue is resolved.
