Restoring author permissions in Adobe Experience Manager Edge Delivery Services

This article explains how to restore author permissions in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Edge Delivery Services when a user is unable to author content on a specific site, even though their roles in the Adobe Admin Console appear correct.

Issue/Symptoms

  • A user who previously had author permissions on a specific AEM Edge Delivery Services site is no longer able to author content.
  • Other users with similar roles retain access.
  • The affected user cannot perform authoring tasks, even though their Adobe Admin Console product roles appear correct.
  • No error messages are displayed, but authoring functionality is unavailable.
  • The issue is not reproducible for all users.

Cause

Authoring permissions in AEM Edge Delivery Services are managed separately from Adobe Admin Console roles. The issue is typically due to missing or incomplete permissions in the Edge Delivery Services configuration console for the affected user.

Resolution resolution

Follow the steps below to resolve the issue.

  1. Log in to the Edge Delivery Services configuration console with an account that has configuration (CONFIG) write permissions.

  2. Navigate to your organization and the relevant site configuration.

  3. Open the Permissions section or permissions sheet.

  4. Review the permissions for the affected user:

    • Ensure the user has at least CONFIG read access at the organization level.
    • Ensure the user has write access to the relevant site content path.

  5. Compare the permissions for the affected user with a user who currently retains author access to verify that they match.

  6. If the user is missing the required permissions, add them in the configuration console:

    • Add CONFIG read (or write, if needed) at the organization level.
    • Add write access to the site content path.

  7. Save the configuration changes.

  8. Wait a few minutes for the permission changes to propagate.

  9. Have the affected user sign out and sign back in to the Edge Delivery Services authoring interface.

  10. Verify that the user can now access authoring functionality for the site.
